Speedometer differences
Through the extensive knowledge of this forum, I have learned that there are differences between the automatic instrument cluster and the five speed instrument cluster. Does anyone know what those differences are? I have heard that the automatic has an indicator for gear selection that the manual doesn't have...does anyone know if that is true?
Thanks in advance for your help.

Automatic does indeed have a gear selection indicator on the tach. Supposedly the speedo is different too (different part # atleast). I havent seen the two (5sp vs auto speedos) side by side to verify. The rest of the gauges should be a direct swap.

Thanks livewirevoodoo. I think someone has put a manual transmission instrument cluster in my 87 and it should have been an automatic. I don't have those indicators and my speedometer doesn't work. SoCal Driver mentioned that it might be the gear inside and I haven't had a chance to check that out yet, but I am planning on doing that tonight. But someone had told me that they were different (might have been you) and I was looking to see if there was anything that would tell me for sure if the instrument cluster was from a manual transmission car or not. If the gear looks okay, I guess my next plan is to replace the whole instrument cluster from an automatic. I appreciate your help.
