Sunvisor sags...what should I do?

My 968's sunvisor sags on the hinge and hits me in the head. Can this be fixed?

Harvey

Hey Harvey,

My 44S does this too. My lazy response was to take it right out - I don't use it that much anyway. I was thinking though, maybe there is a way to put something in the pocket along the metal rod to hold it in place. Like a wad of cloth or something. Unfortunately, too many other projects to take up the time!

Keep us posted,

Peter

I don't know about the later 44s or 968s, but on mine there is a screw on the underside that you can tighten into the metal rod to make it harder to pivot. I am guessing that your (if different) would have to have something similar.

I don't see such a screw...but you've given me an idea. Perhaps the earlier 944 visor will fit. I'd like to tighten up the stock visor if I could though.

Thanks,

Harvey

I did the same on mine... if it bugs you too much I will trade you my 1984 944 for your 968.

It is possible that our old 944's have had the visors changed out and therefore actually have the newer visors... are you confused yet? I am!

I'm also having that problem. I was thinking of whipping up some McGeyver solution when i got a chance... I'd greatly appreciate if you could please keep us updated with your decision and what success you have.

Now I am really confused... I just looked in the parts catalog, and it states that the sun visors were the same for 77-95! Are you guys 100% positive you don't have the little screw?! It is only visible when the visor is down and is right by the metal support rod.

I'll have to go look. But I don't recall a screw (happens when you get older).

Mine on the '88 don't have an adjustment screw. What I did as a temporary fix was pull the rod part that mounts it to the body out, wrapped it with some aluminum ducting tape and put it back in. Worked well for a little while. The problem is that inside the tortion bar(s) lose their tortion-ness and the plastic humps on the rods get worn down, then it sags. Dealer replacement is $90 IIRC since it's a sealed complete unit.

I hope there's a cure cheaper than paying the dealer $90 for a new set!

Mine does the same thing. I just stuck a little velcro patch on the corner of the visor and on the headliner. Too small to look bad and it works.

There should be a small medal clip inside the visor. If you wrap a towel around the visor at the hindge end and squeese it with a pair of pliers it should tighten it.
I'm not sure this will work, but it does wonders on 60's Mustang visors.
Good luck.

I'll give that a try... As cheap as replacements can be had from board members parting cars out.

When someone tries this would you please post your results? Sounds good. I'm out of town and won't be able to get to it for week. Sounds like it should work. Depends on how it's made inside I guess. In theory, I like the idea.

Mine did the same thing. I took a tooth pick and shoved in by where the rod goes into the visor and broke it off where it don't show. Problem solved. May take 2 tooth picks
