Accessing Alternator on 951
Hey all,
I'm working on installing a lighting upgrade and I'm wondering if it's possible to access the back of the alternator without removing the intake manifold on a 944 turbo. If it's absolutely impossible, I think my project will have to wait until summer. :( Thanks |
Oops. I just realized that clark's garage doesn't even mention the intake manifold. Here I go. I hope it's not too difficult.

If you have small hands its ok............ the little bolts holding the air ducting cover can be a pain.......
|
The duct bolts weren't too bad to remove. I'm having so much trouble removing the tensioner bolt holding the A/C compressor. I don't know if I'm just a girly man or if it's because I'm trying to pull some torque while lying on my back, but this thing just doesn't want to loosen. Man, what I would give for a 3/8" breaker bar right now.

I might have to do my alternator this year. Clark's garage says that I have to drain the cooling system. I'm not looking forward to it.
|
legion, I don't know how I pulled it off, but I never touched the cooling system and managed to remove the alternator altogether and put it back in. It took some effort and a lot of time and patience, but I don't think removing that coolant hose is necessary.

That's encouraging. Thanks!
