I didn't realize what a PITA selling a car is...

Since my 951 is for sale...
There are so many people have made offers then back out... I can't understand it. I guess that's why people say "Serious Inquiries only" I should change my ad.
I would never make an offer unless I was ready to go buy the car you know... Maybe that's just me...

Yep. Sucks. I particularly love the "well, can you hold it for me" guys. . .

There's only so much you can do though. You have to be accommodating of prospective buyers if they want test drives, PPIs, etc. but I wouldn't hold anything without a deposit of 100% in advance. Cash only. Then I'd be willing to hold it for up to two weeks. If they didn't like those terms then I'd tell 'em don't let the door hit 'em on the ass on the way out. Next.

You should've seen the idiots I had to deal with when I sold my last vehicle (a GMC truck). Morons would call me every 15 minutes saying stuff like "I don't have any money but I'll trade you my really nice 1984 Mercedes" and "When you say you require an initial deposit of 10% within 24 hours of the auction ending, do you really mean it?" and "Why does you listing say 'I have the right to sell locally and end the auction early'?"

'tards.

I only bother looking at cars if I either know the person I'm buying it from or have cash in hand to pay for it. I figure that's just basic consideration.

I hate selling cars... then you get the guys that will say "I'll be out this weekend to take a look..." and never show, meanwhile you just wasted a Saturday afternoon...
When I bought my car I had cash in hand... When I made the offer I meant it. I went to the guys house drove the car etc... I made the offer the next day, came with the cash. Done deal.
I'm just going to wait until someone shows up on my door step with cash. I haven't listed it anywhere but here... I'm not that motivated, but I would like to make the space. I can't upgrade until I have room and some $ from the sale of this car.

I sold my '84 to a guy from New Hampshire. He drove 6 hours to get to the car in the dark. Looked at it for 10 minutes, sat in the passenger seat while I drove him around the block, offered me $200 less then what I asked and drove it back to New Hampshire. Was with the guy maybe 20 minutes. Unfortunately, all sales can't be like that.

Damn your car is nice... I wish I had 7K sitting around so I could pick it up right now. Why would people back away from a nice looking 951 like yours?!

I know it sounds cruel, but when the tie comes to get rid of the '84 44, I will probably have it crushed and turned into a lawn ornament. There is no one I dislike enough to sell it to.

After all, what is the market value of it at this point, contrasted with the value of my time.

... now that's an idea! Maybe I should turn my 951 into the baddest lawn mower east of the mississippi! ha ha ha. Get rid of the Bilstein's and put a blade on the bottom running it off of the air conditioner compressor.

Really though, I'd take 6k for my car! Thats a steal if you ask me. But, worst case, I'll drive it another year! I really love it and was actually sad at the thought of selling it... but the thought of having a new Porsche trumped my sadness...

LOL... that reminds me of that monster garage episode where they turn a 944 into a golf ball collector that also fires golf balls...
