If you want to avoid lag, why not S/C instead of turbo?

True. Hmm. Where do I get a supercharger kit? How much is that going to run. The nice thing about the turbo is it's a lot easier to pick out the specs you need and you can put a kit together.

If I did decide to run a supercharger I could run a little bit higher compression when I put the engine together and maybe run it N/A maybe until I put the charger on right?

Regardless of what you decide I would at least talk with Jon Milledge for his thoughts, suggestions. I am not affiliated w/him.

SC is an easier option and not have lag as Pokey suggested, less work too iirc. Turbo a AX car to me is a waste of power as it is at its best at near top speed. Taking one lap as fast as possible in a turbo just doesn't work for me, that and I want to use all the turbo for the cash I would have to dump into it. Just want my monies worth. But that said so would buying a JME and only use for AX.

Now remember the head needs to be a turbo head not an NA and if you SC an NA the boost available is minimized by the high compression NA head. So full use of the SC is lessened.

In regards to having fun doing the work, wait till you get half way into it then if it is still fun, well...you just aren't human!;)

Haha. I know. Like when you missread the book and it's in inch pounds insted of foot pounds and snap a bolt off in the block. It's a pain in the ass.

I'm not planning on just doing autoX cross. There will def be some days at heartland park on the track or if I move to indiana there is a place called indianapilos(sp?) or gateway in St. Louis. I probably wouldn't do more than good brake pads and rotors if it's just street and autoX.

You have a few choices for S/C kits, Superchaging of Knoxville, Powerhaus, or Hausbrauen (X3M944 on this board). I would personally build the engine itself the same as you would for a turbo, keeping the compression low, so you can run lots of boost. Otherwise you are limited to about 8 pounds. As for the head, again, you have choices. Lindsay has some nice flow numbers on thier heads (based on turbo), or use a NA head and stainless or sodium filled valves, and have some porting done. You have more modification ability with the NA head, as it doesn't have ceramic liners in the exhaust ports. By going SC you can go with a much simpler exhaust system as well. As far as price, as little as a couple grand, to whatever you can imagine.

If you are interested, send X3M a PM, he is a mad scientist when it comes to boost. The guy has more knowledge than you can shake a camshaft at. Tell him Pokey sent you his way, maybe he'll give me a discount for the referral...

Haha. Will do. I think I was talking to them the other day about a radiator.

pokey 03-22-2006 02:24 PM

That would be the guy.

Cool. How would a supercharger compare to a turbo for track days?
