Love those exit ramps!
Driving into work this morning (I drive my 944 about once a week) made me realize how much more fun it is to take exit ramps at 65 than it is 40 (in the minivan)!
Guess that's why we put time into keeping these 20 year old cars going!

always the equalizer. I have a coworker with a new Acura RSX type S. He lowered the suspension (still inches higher than my stock S) and generally can take me easily on the straights but on the on ramp I pull away and just keep pulling.
I love it. |

I love the realy curved entry/exit ramps. I drive the speed limit, so its very rare I get a good corner that puts the car near the limit for more then a very breif amount of time. Coming from the north on I-85, going south onto I-77, there is a great turn that suddenly dives under a bridge.

An old Porsche ad called the cars your own portable amusement park. I agree.
When it takes the car going 50+ around a cloverleaf onramp to make the (all-season) tires just start to squeal, you have a good car. The 911 guys are dominating OT with their poll of favorite model year airhead car. Somebody should set up a 944 poll like that, for kicks. ![]() Last edited by yellowline; 03-24-2006 at 09:35 AM.. |

There's nothing more gratifying than spanking one of the new "sport" sedans or sport vehicles out there with your 20-year-old lil'-ol'-4-banger. . . Then reminding yourself, "oh yeah. . . my ride's paid for". It cost me less than 1/4 of what that sucka' fading in my rearview mirror paid. And THEN reminding yourself that the other guy is still making payments and carrying obligatory full insurance coverage payments to the tune of probably $800 a month or more. . . "
Makes me smile ear-to-ear. It especially makes me laugh picking on that staple of American boring generic McSportsCars - the "new" Mustang. My 951 will beat 'em even straight-line and in the curves, it's no contest. One of the most hilarious moments I had was on the TRE Motorsports "hangover run" on January 1, 2005 where a guy showed up among the 70+ P-cars with his new Mustang Cobra, presumably to show off. I literally handed this guy's ass to him in the curves. Hilarious. I think he was fuming mad by the time we got done with the drive - beaten up in the curves by a 20-year-old hunk-o-junk 944. ![]() ![]() ![]() It was stock at the time too - I think I might have had the Weltmeister chips in it, but that's it. No other mods at that time. . . Damn I love these cars.

It's one thing to do 50 around a blind corner on a public road, and I'd agree with you there. It's another to enthusiastically take a corner entering a limited access road with good tires, a sharp-driving car, and dry pavement. The Interstate near my house is running at half its designed capacity. It's a rural area, there are no people with any legit reason to be near the highway. Maybe things are different in a city, or on an overcrowded highway. Last edited by yellowline; 03-24-2006 at 06:46 PM.. |

no cloverleafs, that's correct, don't need 'em.
the roads run from one end of the island to the other, north/south and east west and no place to get off. that's why people only live on the ends of the islands with the great ocean views.

No experience in the 944 as of yet. I still need to sort some things out....come on tax return!
In the 914 though I remember a 70s Celica all caged out with flares beating me at the stop light to the circle on ramp entrance. Once we got in the turn though It was a completely different story! I was on his ass through the whole turn in a controlled drift while his back end was stepping out. If it weren't for him slowing me down I could of hit it harder. oh and ajajajajajajajajaja!!!!!! couldn't resist LOL

The rule though is always to know your car and to know the cars you're running against. The guy with the Cobra didn't know what he was getting into. Honestly, both are great cars, just different. The Mustang is all low-end torque and the 951 has amazing high-RPM thrust. From 80 in 5th gear my 951 will push me back in the seat. The Mustang won't do that, but it pulls harder away from a stop than the 951 does. I've had several different cars so far. An Accord that I loved and appreciated for it's incredible overall competance in everything, even if it wasn't the absolute best at anything. I had a Mark VIII that I loved for it's effortless power and cushy-ness, the car never once felt like it was working hard to move itself down the road. The 914 which is the closest thing to a go-cart for the street and which is so direct and raw that the steering feels like you're holding a tie rod in each hand. The 924S and 944 2.7 that built on the 914's handling, but added refinement and lost the raw feel. The 951 that has amazing balance, power, and limits. And now the Mustang which just has that certain something, that is always tugging at at me, saying "Come on, just one burnout, please???? Maybe a powerslide??? Come on!" I dunno, the big thing for me is that I enjoy a lot of different cars for a lot of different reasons. ![]()
