odometer stopped suddenly

Not only is my car stalling and immediately dying everytime i put it in neutral to stop my odometer has ****** stopped working. My speedo and odo didnt work awhile ago but once i put in a new speedo cable everything was fine. My speedo still works but my odo is stuck or something. That doesnt make sense though. If one works, why doesnt the other? And this is great because my fuel gauge doesnt work so now i have no way of knowing how much gas is in my car. I swear im about to go outside and smash my car with a baseball bat. AHHHHHH!!!!

Hi,

I'll bet the gear in your odometer has broken. This is a common problem. The odometer will freeze, but the speedometer will continue to function.

The part is around $40. You can fix it yourself.

If you don't feel confident, Ice Cold Auto Air in Orlando will repair and warranty it for 12 months/12,000 miles for $225 plus tax.

I hope this helps.

did you push the button when it stopped working?
never push the reset button while moving.

that said, the gear inside probably just slid out of alignment. pull the gague and open it up and inspect it.

Correct me if Im wrong but isnt pushing the reset button while your moving one of the biggest myths about the 944. When I had my odometer apart I looked at how it all worked together and I personaly could not see how pushing the reset button while moving would strip the gear. Just my two cents. What does everyone else think.

Damn i was moving when i did it, and i remember thinking o no!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I always reset it when i refuel but the car is usually off. But it didnt mess up and get stuck for a good 30 miles.. It stopped at 29 and 9/10's.
