Wipers & Defroster problems

The '87 944 I just bought has a couple of issues. First the wipers have only one speed. VERY SLOW. Second, I can't get air to the defroster vents. Can anybody tell me where to start ???????????

wipers: could be the relay, could be the switch.

defroster vents: there is a slide on the vent openings that must be pushed up. this closes the vents that would blow horizontally, redirecting the air to the defrost vents. took me awhile to figure this out.

You mean the slide on the dash vent? I closed that but still no air to the windshield.
Can you tell me where the wiper relay is located?

My wipers did the same thing. It was the motor. Check the voltage at the motor and make sure it is 12 volts. Then start working your way back until you reach the fuses making sure you have full voltage the whole way.

Make sure you are both talking about the same slider. The one Nynor is talking about is at the top of the dash and slides top to bottom not right to left versus the one on the climate control unit located in the middle of the dash. If the slide you are talking about has round knobs near it, that is the wrong one. If you have the right slide and it doesn't work, then it's time to take at least part of the dash apart to figure out what is going on.
