Debating whether to do the waterpump...

As you know Im getting a new S2 engine with 80k on it. This is about the right milage to change the waterpump correct? If the waterpump looks new should I just leave it in or just change it. I can get a Reman. one for 125 dollars and the belt kit for 179 with rollers.

Other things i need done is the steering rack boots, tie rods+ends, and the control arms.

Get new, not a remanufactured.

If you don't have service records indicating when the pump was last replaced, assume it's original and could go at any time.

I thought they were a heck of a lot cheaper than that - try Paragon Products - I bought a new one for about 300 bucks from them a couple months back.

Remanufactured is still rolling the dice, IMO. The part you get is only as good as the rebuilder.

the S2 pump is really expensive for some reason. On my S it was a LOT less event in Canadian dollars for a new pump.

You'd be just shy of crazy to not replace it while you're in there.

If your engine is out and you don't replace it, I will come over to your house and kick you.

When the pumps go out...they tend to seize...jimmy the T-belt and trash the engine...it's just good insurance.

I have a used waterpump that has 25K miles on it and not sure what to do with it...but I sure wasn't about to leave it on my car while I was in there doing a belt change anyway.

BTW, anyone buy WP cores?

Harvey
