The aftermarket cam does not have the extension that sticks out. Thus it makes the throttle more responsive (quicker) than the stock cam. A matter of leverage.

what was the reason behind the factory not going through with this originally? just an oversight?

Cus when he factory makes a car it has to be good for "EVERYONE" that means anyone from a 90 year old to a 16 year old. The throttle response cam is a little bit more sensitive and is more like a 1 to 1 ratio with the pedal which could make it harder to drive at first

OK, I've been wanting to reply on this topic...
The throttle body valve is what is known in the industrial world as a butterfly valve. The flow charachteristics of a b'fly valve are such that at about 10% open, you get about 90% of your maximum flow. This is why the "throttle response cam" (not a true cam - it's circular) is more responsive than stock. A small movement in your foot results in a large flow response. The Porsche factory throttle cam (actually a true cam) makes the foot movement versus flow more linear such that you have to move your foot farther to reach full flow. Why is this important? Imagine that you're in a long sweeping turn and driving at the limit. With the "throttle response cam" there is very little foot movement between no and full flow. With the factory cam you have a lot of foot movement between no and full flow. This makes it much easier to steer with the gas pedal. The factory cam allows you to widen the thin line between adhesion and tire slip. For all you Generation Y'ers, this means you can control a drift better...dude. Ultimately, your choice. It is a matter of taste. The Porsche factory engineers designed everything the way they did for a reason IMO. ...except that whole clutch/torque tube R&R thing - I think they did that during Oktoberfest... ...but I do have a theory about the power window switch locaton thing... ...and the relay/fuse location - keeps 'em dry!!

The stock NA throttle cam is meant for fuel economy hence why you will not find it on a 951 and it does not provide a linear engagement. ![]() If someone can't handle a 1:1 throttle plate.....then they should stay of the road. You can easily flip your stock throttle cam and make a 1:1 variation. ITs on this board somewhere...........

"...meant for fuel economy...", "...1:1..." ?!?!?!?!?
You have no idea what the heck you are talking about. I am an Instrumentation and Control Systems Engineer, and have been for at least 25 years. I know WTF I am talking about. I stated facts. Plain and simple. Please don't tell me you actually think the so called "throttle response cam" adds horsepower!! Please re-read my post reply. Several times if you have to. Use a dictionary to help with the big words if you need to.

The NA's have uneven throttle response. PERIOD. The stock throttle cam is meant to limit the first 3/4 of the gas pedal travel to only give the car about 35% of its available throttle, with the remainder of the throttle coming in on the last 1/4 of its range. GO MEASURE IT if you want to be sure. When the elliptical cam is replaced with a round unit you even out this curve so that the ratio of pedal movement matches the rate that the throttle is opened. This an upgrade that Porsche used in the turbo, s and s2 cars No horsepower gains just a more accurate pedal to throttle response.......... Clear enough.

Yeah since the car is so smooth it has less air resistance.

umm... you guys are saying the same thing...
onZedge, you're saying that it makes the throttle more linear.. alex, you're saying that it provides a 1:1 pedal to throttle ratio.. it's the same bloody thing...
