Problem solved! - 944S running rich
Hopefully this will help others in the future. The problem was my 944S was running very rich. At first as long as the fuel pump was running, whether it was from cranking the engine or jumping the relay terminals, my injectors were contantly flowing and filling up the cylinders with fuel. SoCal Driver suggested opening the DME and taking a look. There was a burned area on the bottom circuit board and moisture damage to much of the rest of the unit. I chalked it up to moisture damage from water leaking through the battery tray area. Ordered a used DME, fixed the battery box area from leaking on the new DME. Installed the new used DME and the car ran but it was running very rich with black exhaust and very black, sooty spark plugs. SoCal Driver began helping me troubleshoot the problem. Began testing the injectors, temp. sensors, AFS, fuel pressure regulator, and others. Hugh suggested ground points which I initially disregarded because I recently replaced the clutch and cleaned off the grounds before putting it all back together. But it turns out I did not tighten the engine ground on the top of the bell housing. Hugh said to take a look at the DME. This DME did not have the moisture damage that my old one had but it was burned in the same area as my other DME. The picture shows the DME as it was when I removed it from the car and after I removed the charred area prior to repair. Per directions from Hugh, I managed to repair the DME by coating the exposed copper with solder and bridging the breaks. This shows how important grounds are, particularly on the 16 valve models. Hugh, you saved my car and I hope this post can save other cars as well. Thank you.

The lesson here is to double check everything in a proper order. Called a "testing plan".
These cars are a joy to drive when they are running. A bit of patience goes a long way in solving a problem. Matt owes me a ride to get a beer.
