return to idle
whenever i rev the engine or switch to the next gear the tach shows that the engine speed doesnt return to idle right away. so basicly it takes a few seconds to return to idle speed when reved. my old 944 would return to idle speed very quickly after it is reved. can i fix this by adjusting the idle speed. also the car returns to about 1100 rpm instead of the usual 900.

run the car for 10 mins or so.. get it hot.. then try adjusting that idle control screw.. see if it fixes your problem..

If i pull the gas pedal out to close the throttle the idles will go back to 900 rpm from 1100. So would adjusting the trottle cable possibly help me? or should i just adjust the cable so the throttle is completely closed and then adjust the idle screw from there?Could the TPS have anything to do with my problem?

Have to jumper between pins B and C on the test plug before you adjust the idle on later 944's. Check the throttle cable tension as mention above. The throttle possiton switch will give the early 944's idle fluctuation fits. Not necessarially the later 944's. Change in DME programming.

i know if my switch is turned too high so idle reaches 1100 or over, the idle will drop down to 500 then back up to 1000.. as it creeps back up to 1100 again, it would drop down to 500... without even touching the pedal. this was before wilk's chip, of course... wilk's chip cures all that for me.. |
OK, i just want to be sure. I shouldn't be adjusting the hrottle cable at all right? I should make sure it opens and closes with ease and work on the idle screw from there?
