Post *&$(#@!!! Windshield Washer

Two items:

I've replaced my washer pump, hose, and check valves and I still do not get any washer fluid on the windows.

Secondly, my washer reservoir has a leak, how do you get the bloody thing out!!???

Any advice is appreciated

Thanks

Did u check to see if there is a fuse for the washer motor, if so check to see whether it is blown or not.

The tank has to come out from the bottom, I think. Anyone else know?

Sorry, I should have made myself clearer in the first description.

Yes, the pump does have power, I can hear it running.

Check your in/out hose connection. You may want to switch them to see if it works.

I had this same problem last year, and it turned out to be the lever contacts on the steering column! Over time, they get pretty worn. You need to take a piece of sandpaper and even it out a little. They should work then.

You didn't say if you checked the nozzles. They could be plugged.

Good point, pst. When washer fluid gets old, it becomes flakey, kind of like orange juice. Sometimes those little flakes get clogged in the nozzles. Take a long sewing needle and/or blow in it. This might work.

Another trick to unclog the lines is to remove the feeding tube from the washer tank and place in a bottle of vinegar. This will shoot vinegar through the lines and the vinegar should take care of any clogs. Just make sure to spray off any vinegar that gets on your paint. Good luck.

I have an 86 951 and I tryed to remove my Washer tank through the bottom. After 2.5 Hrs I gave up. I went to the local Autoparts store and bought a plastic tank repair kit. It hasn't leaked in over 3 months. Knock on wood. You know the guys at Porsche are laughing about how they put in that tank. Damn them.

Sorry for digging up the old thread, but you all seem to have encountered my current problem before....

I had a badly leaking washer reservoir which after much frustration and unbolting of parts I managed to get out of the car.

But now I cannont get the new reservoir in. It absolutely will not fit from the top, and when coming at it from the bottom it gets hung up on what appear to be the power steering lines(metal, with several bends)....is it necessary to remove the power steering lines just to replace the washer reservoir?

I replaced my reservoir last year. It comes out and goes in from the bottom. I did not have to remove the PS lines for this. However, I recall the necessity of an impact wrench to remove a bracket of some sort. Tow hook I think.

I think the later year 944's have a smaller and differently shaped reservoir?

My 924S has a very large reservoir that literally follows the shape of the inner fenerwell from the strut tower to the lower valance. It is almost twice the size of many of the 944 reservoirs I've seen....

FYI a 924S (LHD) is aka a 946. Just like a 944 Turbo is aka a 951 and a 924 Turbo is aka a 931. You have a 946 like me.

Same reservoir.

definetly come out from the bottom mine became brittle with age and fell out, ajajajaj I replaced it with a uni water bottle with pump now it only hold 1ltr in stead of 5 saves 4kg in weight and took about 10 minutes to fit works like a dream.

When I did the safety on mine, the mechanic couldn't get mine to work. I dolleyed it home and found after some time there was so much goo at thje bottom, the motor ran but no output. Pulled the hoses and cleaned then ran a hose and sifened out the crap. Took about 20 tries. Vinigar makes the hoses britle after some time. Flush with water and a litle pressure.

Have you checked in/out line routing on the pump itself? Could be blowing air into the tank instead of drawing fluid out.

i couldn't figure out the logic behind the 2 hoses to the pump, 1 hose to the windshield gig...

so i'm running it without the splitter... coming out of the tank to the pump, out of the pump to the windshield. all i know is it didn't work before, and now it does...

Juvy,
I'm concerned, have you bumped your head lately? or been sniffing too much exhaust?
