replaced clutch master cylinder

I just replaced the clutch master cylinder. the pedal just falls to the floor when i try to pump it up to bleed the system. there is no resistance on the pedal. i continued to try to bleed the line that way but i only get a little puff of air at a time. is that normal or is there somthing wrong? also is there a better way to bleed the lines? this way,if its right, is gonna take a long time. thanks

The hand bleeding method I've found to work (most of the time) is to first make sure the hose to the clutch master does not have a hump in it that would create an air pocket. Has to have a nice bend to the top fitting on the master.

I loosen the front fitting that goes to the slave and slowly push the pedal to the floor. Tighten the fitting and slowly pull the pedal back. Loosen the fitting (just a bit works ok) then push the pedal slowly to the floor. Repeat about four times. Don't let the reservior run dry -- front part where the line comes off of. Push a rag or two under the fitting to catch the brake fluid.

Otherwise you need a good power bleeder with a decent size reservior.

When was the last time you changed your timing and balance belts and/or cam chain and tensioner?

Most larger car parts stores have them.

I bleed the clutch with the tube-in-a-jar bleeder setup I use for brakes. And I disconnect the tube from the brake reservoir, and stick a small funnel in the end of it, and fill that with brake fluid, because the funnel holds a lot more fluid than the portion of the brake reservoir that feeds the clutch line.
If you have adjusted the clutch pushrod too short (where it connects to the clutch pedal) then you will have a lot of trouble bleeding it.
