$3300......... :(

That little %&$&#&

I can't believe he is trying to sell that crap on ebay if he has not delivered to you?. Amazing.

shikzachaser 07-07-2006 04:07 PM

I am hearing that the stuff on ebay is "different" and mine is a kit and there have been a myriad of personal problems. Oh yeah, after being told what a big time operation they are the "day job" is getting in the way of my project. The hard pipe was on back order for 3 months, this and that has happened. It's pretty frustrating. I am a real practicing 53 year old adult with a family, grandkids, a real engineering consulting business, etc., not some kid who posts how they want 1000HP from some 150,000 mile NA they just bought for $2500. I really do have better things to do than rant and rave on a forum (no disrespect to the forum as it has been a tremendous source of information and inspiration). I have read your posts Alex and you are way way beyond my knowledge on these cars. I really am in awe of you and socal, seriously. I am just trying to do something myself as a fun side hobby and learn a little as I go. My main hobby besides my Granddaughter is playing upright bass w/ a lot of local (St Louis) jazz people. I just forked out a huge chunk of money to a guy outside Plilly that makes the most unbelievable electric uprights I have ever seen. Money went out, assurances were made as to design, color, delivery time, etc. 3 Months later the bass came and is better than advertised. There are guys out there making really cool one off stuff. This whole mess has turned into a bad nightmare. Hopefully I will be able to post how I am now soooo happy and life is a big bowl of guards red cherries (supercharged ones).

Just so you know - a turbo charger is a supercharger. If its belt driven - its not a turbo charger. We've shortened the term Turbo Supercharger to just Turbocharger.

jgp0rsche 07-07-2006 05:48 PM

steve, you said you bought a kit? what did the kit entail. it seems the item up for auction on ebay is just the supercharger and nothing else.

wow screw you for hating young people because we arnt settled and have good paying jobs yet

maddydaddy 07-07-2006 08:46 PM

I purchased a MAF kit for my 944 S2 from him and waited about 6 weeks before finally filling a claim with paypal on the last possible day. I got my money back, but not before 6 weeks of every excuse in the book about the supplier, UPS, etc. I still wanted it, so I offered to still purchase it, but COD and he said no. That told me volumes right there!

Tervuren...I'm impressed. Not many people know that all pressure increasing intake devices are superchargers (by definition) and turbos are just one model of the many available. Superchargers include impellers (class that includes turbos), twin screw type and counter rotating at least that's all the classes I know of. Most think that because it's exhaust driven it's not a supercharger which is incorrect. It seems you have learned your vocabulary very well. :) Me, I was sleeping that day and had to be corrected a couple times before I figured it out. The part that still confuses me is the turbocharger definition. According to Webster, it's a Turbine based supercharger (hence the term turbo) driven by exhaust gases. Wouldn't a turbine based supercharger that's shaft driven be a turbo supercharger as well? So, does anyone know what a shaft driven turbine based supercharger is called?

a really big headache.

Razorback1980 07-08-2006 06:33 AM

Especially if you buy it from someone that doesn't deliver! :)

Speedo959 07-08-2006 06:55 AM

In my mind if it's driven by a belt it's a supercharger....by exhaust, a turbo. So if I were to take a supercharger and put a turbo in place of the pulley to spin it, what would I have then? :)

I'm sorry if you misunderstood my post. I was just stressing that I am not just fooling around. It has nothing to do with hating young people. I actually like them. I play in a band weekly with guys that are anywhere from 15-20 years younger than I am. My wife however has a problem with me checking out the young girls. I truly appologize for my poor choice of words, it was unintenional and not directed at anyone. I am not being sarcastic so please don't take it that way.

shikzachaser 07-08-2006 07:34 AM

The "kit" was or is to be comprised of a MAF conversion, hard pipe w/ 2 extra injectors, injector controller, new alternator, supercharger, and all necessary hoses, belts, guages, instructions, etc. I have been assured of receiving a complete kit. The ones on Ebay apparantly are ordered as needed from the mfg. and sold w/o any goodies. Money goes to the seller, he orders them, you get them after he gets them. I can see why there are some delays getting to the start of the chain. I will admit that the Fiberwerks and the MSDS items were purchased by me this way. They took a while but when they arrived they were as advertised. It would be a lot easier if the vendor let people know up front that he is not some big time operation and that it is going to take a while (not 6 months but a while) to fabricate a complete kit and send it out. I am pissed because I was told 6 weeks max when I sent the funds. We had a lengthly phone conversation again yesterday where I stressed my position as nothing personal, just business. Hopefully things arrive as promissed again on July 17. It will be unfortunate if they do not.

haha its the young girls that always get yea, i was sort of playing with the comment too if i meant it i wouldnt have said screw you, i am out for like 400 bhp not 1000 :)... but on the supercharger topic i think its a waste and will probly cause the alternator alot of stress and added heat due to resistance think it might shorten life of the alternator

i hope not out of a 944 n/a

steve, it seems like you are coming around on this guy after seeing how he gets his parts. It looks like he can't control parts disbursement from the different companies he orders from.

On a side note, did you plan on running an intercooler? i have been reading your original thread of the buildup of the car, but nowhere did i see mention of an intercooler. What have you don't to get the block ready for forced induction?

What parts have you received so far?

shikzachaser 07-08-2006 08:42 AM

Thanks JER944, I really don't want to unintentionally piss anybody off. The theory of operation is obviously debateable. Hopefully I have made the right decision. Initially I was going w/ an LS1 conversion. I backed off due to the VW suspension, inadequate braking, and transmission on my 84. Also the idea of losing power brakes was unacceptable as my wife will still want to drive it. I know of no other way to get the desired power short of selling the car and buying a 951. I don't want to do that as we bought this one new. We have other cars so I could take the time to do what I wanted to this one. It handles incredible now and I like the way the Fiberwerks stuff looks. Pictures do not do it justice. Karl is a good guy making a good product. If I can just get the rest of the motor here I will be a happy guy.

All I have received are 2 auto-meter guages one of which I was told by an engineer at auto-meter was the wrong one for the application. I subsequently ordered the right one and took the exhaust back off to weld in a bung for a dedicated O2 sensor. I have also received a MAF conversion kit w/ no way to hook it up. I will not initially be running an intercooler w/ the 6PSI. If my stuff does materialize from West I will be working probably with him (I know it sounds crazy but I was beaten as a child) to up that over the winter at which point I will definately want to go that route.

I took the engine down and sent the head out for a pretty stock valve job, just flowed things out a bit, 951 wide fire head gasket, MSDS headers, new free flow CAT, new belts, tensioners, injectors, wires, misc stuff. I also put in a new Sachs clutch, all new vac lines, lots of small stuff that was not necessary given the car has 72K miles on it. I have a Lindsey adjustable fuel pressure regulator, new fuel pump and pressure guage coming next Monday or Tuesday. Nothing really too radical. I am shooting for 175-180 RWHP for now.

There was a new 3 liter crank installed about 7-8 years ago by a shop in Atlanta when we lived there. When we moved to St Louis I had to go back to a stock exhaust and CAT to pass emissions.

I don't know if coming around and being buddy buddy is our current relationship. I have been treated like s..., told a ton of excuses, and not seen what I paid for in an acceptable amount of time. Seeing how somebody gets parts after the fact is BS when you are told on the front end a specific time frame and how big an operation is. I have emails attesting to how big time they are. Now I can't get my stuff due to a "day job" getting in the way. That and his being in a financial bind to complete. He got all of my money up front, 100%, I did not argue price, I sent a wire transfer for 100% up front. His situation is unfortunate, my situation is unfortunate. I did not create the situation, I am only bearing the brunt of it financially.

I would definitely rethink this setup. it sounds like you have done nothing to your bottom end. for example, do you have the stock cast rods?(instead of 951 forged rods?) most of the stress will be put on the bottom end. ESPECIALLY, if you don't use an intercooler. The intake temperatures will soar and can cause knock, which can cause detonation. and if that happens do you think those cast rods will hold up? Not trying to rain on your parade, but a lot of other issues need to be tended to.

I have thought about doing a supercharger conversion on my 944S, because of the Fiberwerks front bumper. It has this opening that is just PERFECT for my Speedforceracing front mount intercooler. The thing that has always stopped my from doing the conversion is all the work needed to begin the project and then be able to maintain it. here's a pic of what i mean (this is my fiberwerks fron bumper, with my SFR intercooler for my 951)....

but, these are all opinions anyways. hope everything works out for you.

Hate to rain on yours, but.....

I'm 99% sure the 84 (at least early 84 anyway) came with forged rods. It's been a while since I've looked at my JME ITS organizer (and it's at the shop right now or I'd pull it out), but I'm pretty certain of this info.

Also IIRC (again 99% sure), the 944 came not only with forged and cast rods, but the late versions had sintered rods.
