Unhappy A/C Comes and Goes

Hi All,

My "new to me" 86 944 NA is slowly but surely getting sorted out.

I have a weird problem. I hope someone knows what this is. My A/C suddenly blew super hot no matter what I did. My mechanic said I needed a new control panel, as the panel wasn't supplying enough vacuum to the heater valve and the valve was letting only heat into the car.

He wired the valve so that it wasn't super hot (but not cold either) so I could drive the car somewhat comfortably until I got a new control panel.

New panels are made of unobtanium so I got a used one for $200. I swapped out the part, and removed the wire installed on the heater valve. Now I have icy cold air about 85% of the time, but it can suddenly blow hot as Hades. Shutting the blower off and waiting a few minutes eventually gets me cold air again.

Could my heater valve be bad?

Any help is greatly appreciated.

Could be several things....check a couple of these out. First...when it is blowing hot, make sure the a/c compressor is running. Do this by taking a look at the very front of the compressor and if any part is sitting still, then that's the problem (sorry if you already knew that part), then check out these parts to see if they are okay...well, I'll have to update this post with the link in a minute.

Edit: check out this link to make sure you don't have this problem: http://www.kronowit.com/porsches/944-heater-fix.html

Thanks Razorback,

Certainly sounds like the symtoms I am having.

Does anybody have the part numbers for the support and clips for the mixing valves?

I've not gotten in there to check it all out, but I am going to order the parts and replace them anyway. Looks like if they aren't broken, they will be at some point.

Thanks in advance.

They are in the article and I ordered mine from Pelican. I actually ordered two for the next time they break.
