heater control valvue

While troubleshooting a heater problem on my '83 944 I disconnected the bowden cable from the white connector on the heater control valve and I can't get the thin wire back into the hole on the heater control value for the life of me. Is there a trick or tool that I need to be using? There isn't a lot of room to work but the cable seems to need to go in at a funny angle and I just can't get it. Any suggestions?

thanks,
Dustin
