Question 944 trunk size

Hi,

Just wondering...can you fit a set of golf clubs in the trunk of a 944? They seem to have more storage space than a 911.

The Wife is pulling for me to get an E36 M3...but for some reason I kinda like the 944, maybe a turbo.

So...can it handle golf clubs?

Joel

let me tell you what my trunk handled for the 12 hour drive from michigan.... FOUR phone dial rims WITH tires, car cover, TWO carry on suitcases, a small duffle bag, factory airbox, workshop manuals and a second passenger!

the 944 will Scoff at your golf clubs!

The 944 is the El Camino of Porsches.

From my local PCA region auto-x chairmans mouth (a 911 owner also).."These 944's are so practical, i could never fit this in my 911". He was refering to a HUGE fold up sun cover thing that we setup to cover those working the timing equipment. This thing is huge! It fit into my car, EVEN with the rollbar in it.

Its the huge blue thing on the right side of the trailer. This thing is about 4 feet tall when folded up and about 1.5 feet x 1.5 feet. You can probably use your 944 to caddy all of your equipment including a couple of friends!

Holy schnikes....that's a lot of stuff. El Camino of Porsches. I like that. My Wife was rooting for me to get an E36 M3 as it appears from the exterior to be more practical than the 944. I like the M3, but I like the 944 better (plus after reading up on the M3, there seems to be a host of electrical gremlins that accompany one's purchase). Knowing that my golf clubs will be scoffed at and then swallowed whole by Der Camino gives me a good point to argue.

Anyone know of any for sale in the Augusta, GA area? Preferably turbo.

Ah I wish I still had my pictures around.... I fit lots of things in my 951.
2 engine blocks, 2 oil pans, a box of pistons, 2 or 3 full wiring harnesses, etc, etc, etc.
Let me see if I can find the pics.

Oh yeah, I should also ask...is a 944 turbo suitable for use as a daily driver?

It should good daily driver provided you do have backup car. Not sure if youy want to put all of your faith into a vehicle nearing 20 years old. Meaning can you afford being late to a meeting or missing work one day if it dosent start. Im not saying its not reliable, i am saying its 20 years old.

Personally if you wanted a little more of a 'livable' car every day car that is more than capable as a track car or people hauler, consider the 4dr E36. I think they were only available in two model years. Its a newer car and is a little more refined. This is subjective though.

944 Trunk

We have both a 98 M3 and an 84 944. The M3 trunk is much smaller than the 944. I recently sold my 91 C4 Targa as there was essentially no room.

I will second this. I love my 951, but old stuff is old stuff. I would not recommend it as an only car, but it's a great daily driver.

if you are talking about the trunk, found in the cab, and not the hatchback area of the hardtop model, and presuming that the 944 is the same as the 968 (which it should be), then yes, in fact 2 full sets of clubs will fit in there - i've done it a number of times - that is actually the reason i bought the car over others

Well, I'm looking for something that I can depend upon more often than not. I agree that old stuff is old stuff, but at least it's not like my AH Sprite that I have right now. I'm in the Army so I pretty much can't ever be late, but my Wife and I do have her Toyota 4Runner which is dead reliable. So, if anything ever happened I'd still have a means to get to work.

I guess I'm looking for a sports car that I can buy outright, not worry about British wiring, and still have some room to pack a set of golf clubs or luggage for the Wife and I on a weekend. The 944 seems to fit the bill. Plus, there seems to be a lot of opportunity to tune the 944 for some serious "bang for the buck" enjoyment (at least from what I've gleaned from my lurking here on the boards).

Joel, as long as you have a second car to get to and from dont sweat it. My 944 has never left me stranded (20k miles and 2,5 years as my only car). Ive done a ton of preemptive maitienence on it though. The headgasket started leaking last week. The car was still drivable and it was such a minor problem i actually drove the car over 400 miles. Repairs on the otherhand are what cause most of the downtime. Im lucky my father can drop me off to school and whatnot.

One thing i would not do is buy a 944 Turbo and expect it to do something like get your wife to the hospital if shes in labor (i mean not to trust it 100%..maybe 99.9% )
Again im not saying its not reliable, just always have another option available.

Wouldn't you like to be able to say you were born in a 944?

I'll be moving to Augusta, GA here in a month or so...so I'll be looking for one if anyone is interested in selling their turbo.

Note that this statement only applies to the 944 Turbo.
