Can't find TDC mark on the "S"
Hi guys,
Doing the timing belt job on the S. I'm having a heck of a time finding the TDC mark near the clutch housing. The info on Clarks Garage doesn't seem to help either. I don't know if there's a difference for 16v engines or not, but can someone point me in the right direction? A pic or two would be ideal. Thanks.SmileWavy |

I am also in the middle of a belt, rollers, and water pump change on my S myself. I found the OT mark on the flywheel more accurate. I had a friend looking through the square hole in the bell housing with a strong flash light while I was turning the engine, 24 mm socket. The hole is on top of the bellhousing a little to the left.

no notch on the bottom of the flywheel on the 16 valve engines, only on the later 8v engines.

Not sure if the S is same as these pictures from the 968.
I have a aftermarket flywheel with a sharpie mark I put on and reference to the second page marker by flywheel sensor. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1163017446.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1163017466.jpg |
Here is what you are looking for.

You need both hands in there. On for the light and the other to hold thinks back. Then cock your head till it hurts. Strain your eyes till you find it then you can say "OH Ya there's that stupid thing."

Thanks guys but I'm still a little lost. bazar01, with the brake booser blacked out in the pic its hard to get a reference point. Were you looking straight up when taking that?
Anyways, details details. Maybe its not worth the trouble. I doubt lining this up will matter when I put it all together, right?;) |

I lay down on my belly on the driver side fender with the hood up looking from the space between the brake booster and the reference sensor plug, down to the bellhousing close to the grounding cables beside the reference sensor mount in the bellhousing hole. Look sideways from the windshield side down to bellhousing. Take it easy and don't break your neck. It hurts especially on the back. :D When putting everything back, it matters because the flywheel is locked and your only reference is the camshaft pulley mark. |
