85 Porsche 944 Hood Release Handle
Help
Have recently purchased a 85 944. The hood release handle mechanism fell apart when pulling the release the day afterwards. The cable still opens the hood but I am not sure the HW was ever mounted right by the previous owner. I am looking for replacement parts, which I see here on Pelican (though I do not need the cable). What I cannot find is proper mounting/install procedures (Even in the Hanes Manual there is nothing). Any assistance would be greatly appreciated. Dave |

I had this happen to mine; fixed it by getting a new retaining bracket (that's what broke on mine). Took old bracket out, put cable into retention clip on bracket, then put the handle on the peg of the bracket, then screwed it back down. Mine was fairly self-explanitory once I got my head down there. What happened to yours, exactly?

Cable is still attached to the handle part itself. The handle part came off of the mount that is against the side of the drivers side leg area. The bolt that evidently must attach the handle went flying or one of my kids picked it up and lost it. I am unsure how the handle, the bracket, and the part still mounted on the side connect together. It does not really seem to add ip (not a smooth operation). I am not even sure that the part on the car (besides the handle which is identical in appearance to the one on this site) is 100% correct, as the mounting screws appear to be in a different place. I'm just trying to figure out how it all fits together, if I order the 2 parts listed here on Pelican.

The bolt hole at the top of the handle is the pivot point. This bolt/screw should be anchored to the side plate, yet still allow the handle to rotate/move freely.
The inner part of the cable is attached to the handle. The outer part of the cable needs to be anchored to the side plate. The entire mechanism works just like any bicycle brake cable. The handle pulls the inner part of the cable, while the side plate holds the outer part. JM ![]() |
