Angry My baby got Vandalized

Hello to u all i haven't been on here for what seems too long. I have been in Europe and thus left my baby behind:-(. But on the 15th of DEC some hooligans who were drunk DECided to have fun breaking cars w/ baseball bats. They got 9 cars, including mine and a sheriffs. They busted my back one completely and got a rlly good hit into the front before being arrested. They threw yogurt and eggs at the cops before being arrested! ( a bit drunk aye?) So both of my windshields are totaled and i need a replacement.

So i have a 1987 Porsche 944 and was wondering of the options of the windshields. I know i need a front windshield w/ antenna but how does the back work? Mine has heating but than what is the spoiler option? I am kinda lost with that and do not know what to tell the dealers:-(. ANY Help will be greatly appreciated.

look at that.. i think you've just stumbled onto the Porsche DelSol...

just the glass is all you need.... the 'spoiler' wasn't an option, it's part of the rear hatch... and the rear defogger (i believe) was standard... just tell them you need the glass for the front and back for your '87.

if you dont want the option of the antenna in the windshield, there's always the option of adding a power antenna in one of the front fenders...

sorry for your loss, but at least it's easy enough to prove to the insurance company that it was vandalism.

well I think the real bad news will come when the insurance co finds out how much the rear glass is. They might try and total it.

There are a couple of people in Cali that part cars reguarly and i am sure they have a spare rear hatch. You may want to ask around on the Rennlist forum. One particular guy (Lart951) parts out 944's all the time. Im not sure where he is in relation to you.

That may be like me driving to Northern Virginia to pick up a hatch!

Wow, that really looks bad. Sorry, I know that must be hard. Anyway, an upholstery shop can repair your seats and it will probably be hard to spot. As for the windows, I'll send you an email with places that have them for sale on the recyclers search.

Good luck.

What is going to happen to the kids? Are they going to have to pay for all the damage?

Odd to here questions on a rear heated window. Every car here in Canada has the defog option. I guess your's must have come from up North somwere. Anyway, up here all insurance coverage includes glass but they changed it a couple years back to a separate $300 deductable because people were actually getting their windows repaired. Emagine that. Remember your rights. Go for brand new glass or as close as you can. Insurance companies up here now use used parts even if you complain. Take it to a restoration company and ask them to deal with the company. They no how to get through the red tape.

every 944 has the rear window defogger/defroster. any used glass you pick up should have it. i have 3, if you were here i'd sell you one cheap... unfortunately you're on the west side

Paul, they do the same thing here. Their argument is that the glass that was broken was used and they are putting a used part back on it, so they are putting it back like it was. They do that for fenders, bumpers, tail lights, etc. as well. I thought all 944's had the rear window defrost option, but I could very well be wrong about that. Every one I have seen has had it. We also have the deductible and have had for as long as I have been driving. Of course you can choose how much you want for a deductible on your policy but it affects the price you pay each month for insurance.

Boarder22lb...take the kids parents to small claims court and get them to pay for the damage as then it doesn't count on your insurance. In those courts, no attorney is needed and you should have no problem winning that case. Anyway, I sent you places to buy both glasses but I would definitely get a new windshield, I have heard they are not that expensive. Hopefully, it will all work out for you soon.

Sorry for your loss. Looking at your pics, this reminds me of what happen to my car in October. Use an OE windshield. Aftermarket windshields may not have the best fit. I got this information from the person who removed my broken windshield. Porsche will sell me one for about $450. Whatever you buy, look to see the condition of it. You don't want to go through the pain of removing this again. There are several good Porsche parts guys in Ca. I would do some research; again the glass quality is important.

You want to buy a hatch with the spoiler attached. The window seal in integral with the frame. Many complain about window leaks because of the seal failure. Not many glass guys here in the Chicago area want to attempt to fix this. I got a used one from a member of this board. Look around again in CA or on Ebay. It should cost you around $100. Try to buy local because this puppy is heavy and it will cost more to ship than to buy.

The glass clean up is a mess. It's like seepage; you vacuum it up and the chips appear later. They were everywhere in my car, under the seats, in the tire wells, dash - a mess.

I really felt violated; it really didn't hit me until the next day. Good luck!! Hang the bums!!! It is a cruel act - something bullies do and I hate bullies.

About 7 months ago some dude auctioned off a hatch from an 87 with the widow wiper and tinted down in vegas on ebay, for I think 3-400 plus 100 shipping. You might get lucky if you keep an eye open. Reason I noticed is because some fool broke my hatch jackin mine. He jacked it all up. So I know how you feel, I guess.

Be wise and try to settle with insurance digs and factor in restitution to save your car bro. If not someelse might or chop it up. I would offer to buy your radiator but it wont fit mine.
