Wheel Size on my 88_944

What should be the stock wheel size on my 88NA. It has the stock Phone Dialers. Should they all be 7" ? Can i run 8" on the rear?
Thanks Neal

15x7 all around with 215/60/15

You can get 8's on the rear..but 8's were only available in 16's and up.

Ok Thanks for the info. I've been looking for a set of 16"s. What about tire size? Do they all need to be the same size 215s, or can i put a different front to back?

It all depends on the handeling characteristics you want out of the 944. If you want it as neutral as possible go the same size all around... me... once the rims I am getting are refinished I will be running 225/50/16 in the front and 245/45/16 in the rear. This will give you a little more of an understeer characteristic.

There are lots of discussions on this forum about various tire sizes, widths, and rims. It basically a matter of taste and driving style.

Good Luck!

I've debated the same issue over and over and Techno Duck has pointed out many things to me along the way. Since my car is really my 16 year old's car, I'm hoping that performance isn't quite as big an issue like it may be to many others. I really like the look of bigger tires on the back but I also like to be able to rotate them properly and buy tires less often and have them wear properly. With bigger tires on the back, that isn't a possibility. Just something to consider while making your decision. Also if you go bigger than 16's, then you should make suspension changes as Techno Duck and AE1969 educated us on yesterday in a post here.

Stock sizes for the 16's are 205/55/16 and 225/50/16. As Gremlin said, go with 225/50/16 all around if you want the most neutral handling. Personally i dont think you will see a difference running a 225 all around for a street car, auto-x and track use is a different story. I personally run 225's and 245/s because i like the look of a wider tire for my summer wheels.

My track wheels are 225 all around.. the next set will be 245 all around when i eventually find another pair of 8's.

The link below has some information on tires & wheels for the 944. Also, someone has posted a link to a tire calculator model which enables you to compare tire sizes and the effects on your speedometer (for example, moving up to 16's is fine as long as the profile is adjusted to make the diameter of the final tire the same as it was on your 15's)

Well i found a set of wheels. I belive that they are off a 944S2. I hope they will work. The front offset is 55 instead of 52.3 Now i need to decide on size tire??? I think that 205/55/16 front, and 225/50/16 rear where the 16" option , but 225s all around would be easyer to get tires.

-88',

on my 88na i have 205/50-17 in the front and 255/40-17 on the rear. The wheels arent stock wheels obviously. I love the look of the wide tires in the back. like tom, performance really isnt an issue with me, but they look fast, and dont overwhelm the look of the car. i have the phone dials under my work bench, they are my saw dust collection units

Those offsets will work fine. You can do 225/50/16 all around, if you like the look of a wide tire, you can put a 245/45/16 on the 8 inch rear, 225 is the widest you can go on the front with a 7 inch rim.
