preventing engine fire

I been seeing a lot of 944's either being stripped out or trying to be sold after a engine fire. I would hate to see this happen to mine. What is the best way to prevent this from happening?

Replace all of the seals for the injectors. Replace the hoses between the steel lines and the fuel rail with the proper ones; high pressure fittings as necessary. Don't use a fuel rail that has a crack. Make sure the hose are properly supported and do not vibrate and cause the fuel rail to crack.

Due diligence.

When was the last time you changed your timing and balance belts and/or cam chain and tensioner?

A friend of mine had his go up because oil was leaking from the plate on the back of the cam tower and he said by the time he got it stopped after noticing the smoke, the flames were already there. But knowing him, the smoke was probably there for a while.

Besides regular maint, I recommend installing a fire suppression system. At the first sign of problems, you can pull the handle and fill the engine compartment with halon.
