alternate MAF

Hi, I´m thinking about replacing my worn and dirty MAF, and they are asking me more than 700$ here in Spain at my local porsche dealer.

I checked internet, and I found the original bosch for about 450$.

And here at pelican they have one, a "python injection" brand at 190$ part number 951-606-121-AX-M263

Is there any problem with the last one? Is the python totally compatible with my stock 86-951?

Or is the original bosch worth the money?

Or may be I´d try to clean mine´s a bit?Is it useful?

I have a bit of roughness at medium rpm range and I think MAF it´s to blame, do you agree?

You dont have a maf, you have an afm. If you go to maf theres no parts to wear and a gain in throttle response and spoolup. I wouldnt pay anywhere near that for an afm when you can get them used for dirt cheap.

Move the wiper arms over a bit on the ceramic resistor. See www.frwilk.com

When was the last time you changed your timing and balance belts and/or cam chain and tensioner?

Sorry, I meant AFM, wrong spelling.

Hi Socal, its been a long time, i´m glad you still have your 944!

I´ve just read clark´s garage article about frwilk´s test and repair of the afm, i´m trying on mine´s but they told me they cleaned at the last visit to the workshop 2 year ago, and the problem still occurs, so I bet it´s really worn with it´s 22 years and i´m not expecting a great improvement.

It´s not easy to find a used one here in Spain that´s why i´m considering the "not so expensive" python one, is it really like the original one??

Wilk was working on a revised BMW unit to fit the 944 and 951's. Was going to be less than $400 for a non-mechanical unit.

Manute,
i read someplace, i think it was here or on rennlist, where a guy carefully took a dremel to the circut board mounting holes of the AFM. he made the round screw holes elongated ovals. what that did is it shifted the entire AFM board just slightly so the wiper now moves over a "new" track all together. rather than clarks technique of bending the wiper arm.

So that means no wear at all, that´s interesting. I will contact frwilk to know how is it going.

Well, it´s another method....I thinks it´s better clark´s method, just beacuse you don´t risk a misalignment of the holes...i think just bending the wiper is easier and safer.
Need to check my voltages however, may be I don´t need to mess with that at all.

OFF TOPIC: I like embraer 145, easy avionics, intuitive and simple to fly.
Me pilot too, but you are more lucky than me, i´m still with pipers. :-(
