Countermatch and 6 speed Question
I need to get "headlight Flasher and dimmer combination relay" and an "extra High beam relay" (relays 7 and 8, lower left of fusebox) does anyone know the countermatch to these Items?
Also, I was talking to a gentleman (who was drunk) and he said that the 944s and the 924Ss could be fit with a 6 speed. A six speed? can they? why would you want one? Thanks Folks,

I believe the 968 had a 6-speed. Perhaps his drunkenness confused him...

I'm sure that the 944 can, theoretically, be fitted with the 968's 6-speed tranny. How much it would cost, however, is another question...

Why wouldnt you want one??? 6 speeds rule, IF you do a search this topic on 6 speeds has been covered ALOT. If I remember correctly the 968 6 speed would fit a 944/924S but Im only about 75% sure since I havent read about it in a long time. I think the drive shaft spindes match. It would be nice to have that extra gear on the highway. Dam I need my porsche back on the road

Well, this would theoretically be a good upgrade for the 944, assuming that the ratios match up well. I am guessing that a 6-speed would generally have shorter ratios than a 5-speed, which might help with accelleration.

The 6 speed will fit just fine but you also need the axles and the gear shift linkage. Also,. you will lose your speedo but there is some way of hooking one up through your ABS, if you have it. The Rennlist has some great threads and how to dos on this subject. I don't know if this would work on an early car.

From my experience, the S2's five-speed's gear ratios are better suited for autocrossing the 968's six-speed.
While then 968 has more power, the S2 usually takes it when autocrossing. This is from several years of autocrossing my old 951, 944 S2, and a friend's 968 against other turbos, S2s and 968s in the stock class on street tires. |

Well, that pretty mich clears it up. It can be done. As with most automitive modifications it is merely a question of time and money. If I was into serious racing, It would be something to consider. However, I am more of a casual driver. As I will be pulling the trans out to do the clutch anyway, I will consider it. However, It is not likely I will find a 968 trans, linkage, tube, and axles out there for short money. Besides, my current 5 speed seems to be OK for now.
Now that I know it is a 968 "rear end" I think I have seen one on one of the boards. It is a racer. BTW, I think my 924S pulls it's speedo input from a front wheel, which would solve the speedo dificulty involved in the 944 bolted to a 968 trans. Back to the Relay Question--- Does anyone know what the countermatch to the "Headlight dimmer relay" is? I found out the high beam relay was a laughable countermatch as it is a simple relay and I replaced it with a Saab relay from the boneyard. The headlight dimmer relay is a little more difficult.. the blade outs are kinda odd and I was wondering if there was a countermatch.
