power window question
On an 83 944. The switch on the drivers side doesn't work to lower the passenger window. The driver side switch works for the drivers window, and the passenger side switch works for the passenger window. I swapped the switches around, same thing, so i know the switches are good. Ran a volt meter to the plugs and got the same reading from both the drivers and passenger plugs. Also changed out the relay. Any other ideas? Not a major problem but it is annoying. It's been like this since I bought the car, so i haven't ruled out something stupid the PO might have done, because I've found a lot of that.

The switches are in the ground from each "side" of the motor. There is a single hot lead to the motor and two ground leads. When you push the button up, the switch closes and grounds the up lead from the motor. (Vice versa for the down position.) In the case of the passenger window, there are two switches in parallel. It sounds like the ground wires from the switch in your driver side door may not be connected to ground. In my 1988 944, the passenger side switch controlled opposite (up was down and down was up.) I guess it was incorrectly wired from the factory because all of the wiring appeared to be correct.
