Alarm & Keyless Entry
I just had an alarm installed yesterday. It was supposed to include an optional "Key-less entry" setup. Unfortunately, I didn't notice that the key-less part of the deal was not installed until after I got home from the shop.
So, I was just wondering....before I bring the car back to the shop. How difficult is this to install. My car is an '88 and has the central locking button on the console. I just want to prepare myself before I go back to the shop and complain. Other than that, they did a great job. Very clean, no wires anywhere and the alarm box, which was installed under the dash looks almost factory as they secured everything neat & tidy. Any tips would be great.................Vern |

The Keyless Entry on Non-power locks envoles a central computer with heavy wires to good battery source (say 20 amp). Running 3 heavy wires into each door through the rubber flex boot. removing Door covers. Mounting a electric solenoid in each door usually between latch and latching hook. If you go keyless you may consider having the normal lock removed outdoor latch rods removed, since this is what most thiefs turn with the universal screw driver. I'd say about 2-3 hours for a pro.
Something like this. http://www.a1electric.com/Merchant2/merchant.mvc?Screen=PROD&Store_Code=AEOS&Product_Code=POP-R4SOL

The problem is solved. I brought the car in this morning and they took care of it. Since my car already had power locks, they installed a second actuator in the driver's door. When the alarm system activates that actuator, it opens both sides of the car since pulling up on the stock driver door lock does that normally.
To my surprize, the whole thing only tool about 30 minutes to install (just the lock actuator as the alarm was already installed). Everything is working great now. Vern |
