Failed emissions again??
Just went back to have my reinspection and fail the emmission test . last time it failed because the NOX level was way high.
so i replaced the O2 sensor gave it a tune up , new plugs etc... Now the NOX level dropped way down below the limit and the CO level spiked to almost tripple what it was before???

If your Cat is older than say 6 years, would try changing that. High flows also give you a bump in power. http://www.lindseyracing.com/Merchant2/merchant.mvc?Screen=PROD&Store_Code=LR&Product_Code=LR-951-EXH-3ACC&Category_Code=
Would need a shop to weld em in thoe. Also maybe some gas additive for pre smog test. Something .. Blue?? Heard it mentioned on this site before. Tip: Run you Car for 25 mins + prior to test. Don't Shut it down in parking lot. Keep it hot and will help. Good luck.

High CO typically means you are running rich. How old is the fuel pressure regulator. How about the DME temp sensor?

A smart a$$ answer from Hugh, imagine that!
![]() ![]() Thanks for the tips guys. Its frustrating, it passed with no problem a few months ago. I had to get it reinspected the first time after I replaced the windshield last month. It really dont seem to be running rich. When the tech ran the emmisions test he had the thing sitting there idling for about 20 min before he even touched the car. dont know if that had anything to do with it.

Vinny,
you have the equipment of doing this yourself, BUT the Meineke on on brick blvd. welded a cat into the test pipe that was on my car. I took the test 15 min later w/ the new cat and had no problems. the car at that time also had multiple vac leaks. They certainly took their time bringing it through as well. i heard if you run your tank low and add some sort of additive they sell at auto parts stores it will increase your chances too. please call if theres anything you need that i can lend a hand with. good luck!! I forgot to add it was 190 bones for the job... the cat they used matched my cat delete pipe so it was a bit larger than the stock one.

Thanks Kev! I might try that additive stuff just to get through it. but still want to find the problem. Have a feeling the cat be be the problem.
Hey I cant complain. 178,000 miles with not one problem other than normal maint... dont get that too often.

When you live in a state that has enacted draconian emission laws you will get direct answers to "your" problem. Ask them why you are required to have emissions that are lower than the car produces dead stock and brand new off of the show room floor. If you can't confront your state idiots then MOVE!

Sounds like cat may be a good bet. When mine didn't pass last December, I gave it the full tune-up and changed the O2 sensor and DME temp sensor, and fixed like six vacuum leaks (car was new to me then). I also ran a bottle of Techron through the car. Then it passed, though I still came close on one of the levels (CO I believe), so I'm thinking I may need to replace my cat before next year's test.
Good luck man! Quote:

I've said it before, disregard SoCal's advice at your own risk. And honestly Vinman, NJ isn't such a bad state to be from.

No emission controls or inspections here, the sea breezes blow all the nasty stuff elsewhere. It’s sunny and warm, we do not have a state income tax and are about to eliminate property taxes. Okay if you don’t buy in though, us Floridians try to keep it a secrete but I would like to see more 944’s zooming around so I’m letting you guys in on it.

Yes but the influx of elderly people is disconcerting. To a young person such as myself, Florida is kind of seen as an elephant graveyard.
Sorry to the old guys on here...

Am I suppose to move to Florida? Probably so. Yeah, they do have some old people there, but when I think of Florida, I think of really nice beaches and spring break....well, you know the rest. Maybe it's a perception thing.

My next vacation...I'm there. Probably in a couple months....wanted to come next month but I volunteered to help a friend complete a computer project although I'm suppose to be retired....which means I'm definitely suppose to be there.
