Looks like I'm leaking around the circular seal that seperates the differential from the auto transmission, but I can't really tell. Too many years of greasy build-up.
It might be the differential transaxle flange seals, as my inner CV joints are also quite "wet." Anybody else experience any leaks in back, and what it might be? Hey Shaun, you ever see anything like this on your auto? |

Where is the drain plug for the differential, on an auto transaxle? The pix in Haynes show it beneath the left side cv joint on a manual trans, but its not there on mine.

Are talking about the Auto trans fluid resevoir, or the differential gear oil filler? I'm looking for the gear oil filler and drain plugs. I only see one 17mm plug. I can't get the 17mm plug off that is next to the left cv joint, its frozen. Saw where someone else is experiencing the same problem.
So I can't tell how much gear oil I have left. Scheduled to have a Porsche mechanic take a look at it on Monday, so I guess I'll sit tight till then. Thanks for your input. |

Yep, that would be me. It's the higher plug of the two 17mm head plugs on the left side of the transaxle. It won't budge for me, and worse yet the head is very worn away. Doesn't matter if I use a two foot breaker bar, the hex head socket won't stay in the hole... Dean

The auto does not have a drain plug for the dif? It must be siphoned. Why is different from the manual dif? Is the dif/transaxle that much different for auto vs manual? I though just the trans itself was different.
btw: My leak is non-existent. They found no evidence of leak or low fluid level. What's up with that? So where to the oily wetness come from. It was all over the rear half of the transaxle and auto transmission. |

I have a smilar leak problem. Got the 17mm plug out OK and it was almost dry of fluid. Topped it off and there is a puddle of fluid on the dirveway this morn.
Now the repair: The Haynes manual only mentions how to repair the CV to Diff seals and not the Trans to Diff seals. Does anyone have any experience with this repair and know what it might cost? I assume the tranny has to come out and it will probably be $600 to replace a $10 seal. |

When I apply some power or torque there is a groaning sound from the rear like the diffy is loose. The fluid was low for a long time so am I looking at rebuilding the diffy? If just a seal, can I drop the tranny can the diff and the tranny be easily separated so I can replace the seal? Or do I need the $500 manual set or a tranmission shop to do the repair?
