hot hot relay

At random times the ac interior blower fan will stop.

The relay G1 gets real hot. If I tap on that relay, It starts again. (short silver metal relay at the front)

Is this the right relay?
Is it repairable?
And just how hot should that get?

something may be drawing too much current, due to a bad ground, or something.

They shouldn't get hot...at best just slightly warm. I'm with nynor...probably the motor. Take it out and clean the bearings in the end and put sewing machine oil on the bearings where the shafts come out ....or if affordable replace it.

If tapping fixes them then you should replace the relay. Commonly the cheap single sided circuit board solder joints fail. you Can also Re-solder them and probably fix the problem. When it slides around it arc's and causes much heat and bad connections. Look for gaps between the feedthru pins and the Solder pads for the Bads.

Find the high current draw source and repair. Replace the relay as it is not the cause but would be damaged because of it. I usually have good luck with the oiling of bearings as stated above. When you spin the fan, you should be able to assess the wear by the sound.

I've got a bunch of relays I pulled out, if you want a used replacement let me know what the part # is and I'll see if I have it. Cover the shipping and it's yours.

Ok, I'll pull motor and clean. Just in case, I ordered another motor.

Just FYI I took the cover off the fuse box and it no longer cuts out. But I know I cant run it like that. Just interesting....

Thanks #39 I'll check
