CV axle same as VW?

I was looking for the cheapest replacement CV axle shaft assembly and while searching the net I came accross these two links

http://roctronics.com/axles/axle1987VOLKSWAGENVANAGON.htm
and
http://www.autopart.com/axles/axle1985PORSCHE944.htm

Note the common 60-7077 part number. Are these the same shafts? Kind of looks like it to me. I was just curiouse if there are cheaper prices and higher availability for the VW shaft if it's the same.

I believe I was told in the past that the shafts were the same as a "Thing" so it is entirely possible. The bolts are the same as VW I can tell you that much.

I've also been told to get the genuine Lobro/GKN CV joints whenever possible, as some of the aftermarket ones are not so good. I've actually got one axle for an '88 NA 5-speed laying around with very few miles that was replaced while searching for the cause of a mystery vibration. Do ya feel lucky?

Thanks for the offer nate, but and need two and I don't believe I'm that brave, it's my DD so buying a new set will pay off in the end. I just ordered a set. Seems the VW axles are no more prevelant than the Porsche ones.

Usually only the left one goes bad, why waist your money if the right one( or visa versa) is still OK. Trust me the money will come in handy for something else.

From my inspection they both seem to be in need of repair. The one on the right/passenger side is the one that is actually making all the racket. I know typically it's the other one that goes bad, but my car was in a fairly poor state of disrepair and neglect when I bought it a month or two ago. So I figure two new shafts and 4 new joints will give me a place to start, then I know what needs serviced when. Thanks for the input though.

If one axle is bad so is the other. You can buy the CV's separate or on an axle. Be sure to use new bolts.

Ok, thanks for the advice SoCal. I had neglected to order new bolts, but I'll get on that.

both while you are there.
Has anyone compiled a countermatch list?
It would be great to know what fits what for these cars.
