Installed XM Radio This Weekend
I put in a new stereo a couple of months ago that was XM ready, and this weekend, I got the XM kit needed to use it.
When I read all of the directions, it stated that the antenna must be mounted outside of the car - preferably on the roof with a minimum of 12 square inches of metal around the antenna. It said to definitely not mount the antenna on the dash. Well, I was a little disappointed as I definitely don't want this antenna on the roof and I don't want any exposed wires being tucked into the window molding. My friend has his antenna on his pickup's dash and it works fine. Unfortunately, the 944 dash is a little smaller. So, I came up with my own idea and it works perfectly and definitely looks custom - see below: The antenna installed using the rear wiper mounts: ![]() I cut a piece of metal and shaped it with a grinder for the mount and then painted it black: ![]() Ran the antenna wire thru the stock wiper tube and then to the front of the car: ![]() 170 channels of commercial free music for $9.95 a month - the XM receiver fit behind the passenger foot rest - next to the DME ![]() Last edited by Tidybuoy; 04-04-2007 at 09:01 AM.. |

Nice solution. I ran my antennae under the door/floor moldings and mouned it on top of the hatch strut, works perfectly and no one can grab it, etc.

I was lucky because the antenna wire was exactly the correct length. I had about 4" to spare. I mounted the xm receiver under the passenger foot-well right next to the DME and everything is getting great reception.
