944S 16v engine/head knocking/rattling

So... ive sorted out a few issues since i got the car back on the road yesterday.

Now the new thing that is bothering me is the clicking/tapping/rattling sound that is coming from the head. I did nothing to the head yet. (i know youre all gonna say change the tensionner) i will soon.

but the sound.. what is it/could it be?

Timing belt was just done and the sound was there before. but now its bothering me. Could it be possible that the teeth are out? i wouldnt think so... the engine runs right (to what i know of it) and the thing starts up like a charm holds all the pressure, no leaks, no over heating. just an annoying rattling sound at the head. Its not the injectors.. cuz i know what they sound like..

The only issue with the running is that it idles at around 950 (been told that is normal) and there are slight slight shudders but the tach doesnt move.. im talking just little inconsistant shakes at idle some times.. but very very minor.

HELLLLLLLP!

P.s. How do i add a signature?

I have the same issue (sometimes) Mine are the cam followers. When I re-built the head I thought I would be cute and I stiffened the springs. When the car heat soaks for a couple of min. like the amount of time it takes to fill up, she taps when re-started. It goes away quickly, but it ticks me off. (no pun intended)
If you are running too thin oil it will allow the followers to tap.
What weight oil are you running, are you using a quality filter,(like factory) and is the oil change fresh?

I had some racket on my top end a few months ago. I used a 10w30 weight oil and it started making obnoxious lifter noises. Changed the oil back to 15w50 and not a problem. I'd try changing the oil, it's cheap (relatively), easy and it never hurts the engine!

I don't really know, but isn't 10W30 way too thin for these engines, unless it's really cold out? Seems like the recomended weight in the manual was 10W40. I'm using 15W40 shell rotella and it runs great. 0W40 mobil 1 also worked really well.

I seem to recall seeing other threads where people had noise problems when running 10W30. I know for sure someone used 5W30 and had problems.

cheap oil filters do not have a valve to prevent them from draining when not running
so when the engine starts up , the hydraulic lifters rattle

FRAM filters are notorious for this

however, it should go away after 5 minutes running the engine

signature is added via the user control panel

I have 10w30 in mine and it seems to work just fine with no noise.
