Here's The Reason I am Leaving the 944 Board
Well after much thought (maybe 10 seconds) I rebought my 964 from the guy who bought it from me 2 1/2 years ago. He literally
put 167 miles on it. I could not pass it up. The guy that is buying my 944 has no idea how good the car is. He will be finding out shortly how nice it is. The C4 is as clean a 91 as I have ever seen, and it is fast. I'm thinking maybe if I put on a little light Brahms and leave a nice bottle of wine out here I may come out to find a little baby 914. Later dudes and dudettes. Steve

That's cute, I wish my 944's would reproduce and spawn a perfectly functioning super baby 944...

If there was ever a reason for leaving the board, that's a darn good one!!

The harness will work unless it is improperly applied. Unfortunately, or fortunately depending how you look at it, this will probably be a one and done as I have real business interests that preclud spending a bunch of time reproducing these. I have also gotten flak via PMs about if I know what I am doing, is it "professional", "I would have done it differently", "you should patent it" etc. I think I will just call it quits as I am sure all the people who know how to do it better will come up with their own anyway. Besides my brother is a patent attorney and he and I both had a good laugh about spending $20-$25K in the patent process to sell maybe a hundred of these @ $100ea. I am however curious to see how it works out for Kyle. It works great on mine, no fires, no blown fuses, no melted wiring.

Just because you are selling your 944 doesn't mean you can't stop by and chat with us once in a while, so don't be a stranger!

You can always be a doppelganger - hang out with both crowds. Whether you keep the 944 or not!

Great photo! Here's hoping you find yourself back into the 944 world again before too long. . .
When I leave my 944s down in the garage together all they seem to spawn is more piles of parts. . . I guess they're doing something wrong.

You have no idea how much I hate seeing the 944 go away. I have a ton of time in it (plus substantial cash). I will be kicking myself as soon as it pulls away. Looking at the two side by side I honestly like the look of the 44 much better. One other thing, the C4 has 3.0 cubic ft of cargo space. Obviously the 944 has a whole lot more. The problem is when you drive the C4 it is absolutely amazing, 0-60 in 5.5, top end 162 (from Porsche specs). In addition with what I paid for it I could turn around and flip it and make 5 or 6 grand. Who knows, in a year or so I may pick up a super clean 968 cab. That could be considered a crossover car and they are really good looking as well as performing well. I will be leaving the 964 dead stock with the exception of many coats of wax.
The guy buying my car has called me everyday for the last week and talked for at least an hour. I may have to start billing him like I do my clients. At $125 / hr the call length should shorten. He is almost as crazy as me. The dude has 2 Deloreans and is getting my car for his wife. Lucky wife! If Jeannie had liked driving this one I would never sell it. She has decided it's too rough riding now and that the steering follows the road too much. Guess she will just have to "suffer" with driving the M3. Poor girl, I pity her. Steve

Just get a 951. 944 styling with 964 performance. And you would keep a little cash for modifying.

Equal performance maybe as far as 0-60, my 964 is AWD. In addition the 911 has a much higher fit and finish. The 951s have never really turned me on. I know they are fast, etc, but I never really liked them for some reason. If I did I would have one. I am in a fortunate position in my life in that my only limitation on cars (within reason) is storage. I may however at some point consider keeping the 964 and getting a low mileage 968. The cabs are really good looking cars. I could also get a Tip so my wife could drive it easier. I never thought I would find myself wanting a Porsche w/ an automatic except for maybe a 928-S.
The experience of building up my 944 was a lot of fun. Unfortunately even getting over the top money for it still has me in a $6,000 hole with it. In addition I still have not gotten back the money I fronted for the SC. It's slowly coming in but at the current rate it will be close to two years from the time I sent it. The whole experience of having to get my brother, state, and federal authorities involved kind of left a bad taste for the project. I just got back from a housewarming party for my partners daughter and a Doc buddy of mine who was there just got a 914-6 completed. He has over $30K in it and it is bad ass. 60,000 original miles. He sent the motor to some guy in Peoria who apparantly is the guru on these cars. They totally balanced and dynoed everything. The little car is pushing 200 RWHP w/ no weight. It is really a lot of fun. In summary for all you guys / gals that think they can build a 250 HP car out of an old 944 N/A, good luck. I tried and failed. I did however get a 150 HP car that handles fantastic, not quite as good as the 914-6 but certainly as good as any contemporary "sports car" in the lower price ranges and it still looks great sitting next to anything. I actually like the look better than the 964. It's just that my wife and I went 300 miles this weekend in the 964 and it is fast, comfortable, quiet, and reliable. For some reason I always come back to a 911. I have had 7 now including the 964 which I have owned twice. I have a Benz ML500 on the way so something had to go to allow garage space, unfortunately it was the 944. It will be missed. Take care and good luck with all your projects folks, I will be following them from the sidelines. Steve

That is a really nice 964, plus, it's the last of the Targas. As nice as your 944 is, I can see why you are going with the 911.

I always did like the Targas. I really hated it when I sold this 86.
I had to sell it, look at all that antifreeze running out of the radiator onto the driveway. Steve

Steve, you don't have to patent it to market it. Copyright on a name brand could probably suffice for the limited market. I am going to give it a shot myself and would like to thank you for your contribution.
Razorback is correct, stop by every once in a while with us less fortunates, even if it feels like slumming a bit.

It's definately not like slumming. The 944 people are definately more hands on than most of the 911 people (including myself). The 944 is so wonderfully basic and easy to access. I learned a lot about the car doing what I did over the last year. Prior to that all I had really done was change the oil. When I look at the C4 from a purly service / cost perspective it kind of scares me. Good luck with the wiring if you do it. It really is pretty basic.
I did find out one thing yesterday. We got about 4" of snow on top of 1/2" of ice. I told my wife to "not worry, the 911 is AWD just like our Audi's were, I'll take you to work". What a mistake. I was nose to tail twice and I will never take it out in bad weather again. I woukd freak out if I crashed it just because I left my Durango or ML at home. As soon as I could get home it went back into the garage and I hit the starter on the Durango. I have new appreciation for it every time the weather is bad, I need to tow a boat, I have to move something, we are taking 6 people somewhere. It quietly sits outside until it needs to be used and never fails. 93,000 miles and nothing but tires, brakes, and lots of gas. Steve
