Power window track problem?

I am putting in power locks to go with my alarm system and "while I'm in there" I took out the window switches and cleaned them per Clark's. Nice write up.

I have been having problems with my driver side window only going half way down then stopping. I will go back up without a problem. If it's getting stuck on it's way down I can give it a little pressure by "helping" push it down while it is still moving. If it is already stopped pushing on it does not help it.

Sometime I also have a problem with it getting stuck going up. Again I grab it and help it up. Usually a couple up and downs will get it to come all the way up again.

From time to time it also seems like the gears slip on it. It will just drop a couple inches on it's way up. It "catches" itself and continues up till it's closed.

I have learned to deal with it, but while I have the whole door apart right now I was interested in trying to get it fixed. I tried cleaning the tracks. That didn't seem to help much. I don't really know anything about power windows. It seems to be getting plenty of power. Is there some kind of slip clutch on this thing that may need adjusting?

Thanks for any help!

Sometimes the window glass can come unstuck from the U track to which the raising / lowering mechanism is attached.

This happens particularly in icy weather when you try to lower the window when it's frozen to the window rubbers. The window mechanism lowers but the glass stays fast and get's pulled loose.

Often times it'll become loose or jam up or down when operated because it's shifted it's relationship with the tracks and riser mechanism. Sometimes you can relocate it in its rubber seat and it'll be fine - other times it'll play up on a regular basis and will need to be reglued in place.

I think this may have happened to you. Worth checking the rising mechanism fasteners first though - then looking (as best you can) at the window seating.

I had the door panel off. The entire thing stops. Not just the glass. I cleaned the track the best I could. The gears feel good, no missing or stripped teeth. I would think that when it gets stuck going up or down is almost like a slip clutch problem. Do these things have slip clutches? The window dropping the inch or so is usually on the way up. I did see the entire unit fall a couple times when it was on it's way up, not just the glass. Again, I know nothing about power windows.
