A/C refrigerant

i didn't want to hijack the other threads.

is there a drop in replacement for the original R12? i think mine could use a bit more juice in there.

thanks!

134A is NOT a drop-in replacement.

Duracool. Freeze-12. There are others, but those are the two i have experience with.. Duracool seems to always please.

remember - refrigerant doesn't disappear. if your system is empty - it leaked out! fix the leak or you're just venting the refrigerant into the air and wasting money.

its not empty. in fact, it works ok, but i think it could use a refresher.

so, i can just drop some duracool in there, no mods, no fuss?

also, there is a coolant valve along the drivers side of the engine bay. is this the low side? it has a cap with an 'L' on it...

Eldorado has it correct. Either Freeze-12 or duracool is compatible with r-12 and its oils. r-134a most certainly is not.

On the turbo the fittings are on the driver's side next to the strut tower. Actually quite convenient for filling. I'd have to check, but my recollection is that the low side is the larger of the two lines (you can always double-check by tracing where they go).

Most auto stores I have been in dont't carry Freeze 12, though I have seen it on Ebay. It will mix with R-12 just fine. I used to use Freeze 12 in R-12 systems before I got my Robinair Smart Cart. Works just fine!

Mmmm, DeLorean.....
A beautiful car, with a horrible design (IMO). I can honestly say I don't miss mine. It had the Buick V6 engine with mechanical fuel distribution and Bosch jet-tronic Lambda system. It was truly a PITA to keep happy!

Out of curiosity, what's the asking price?

18k is actually low, by canadian standards, for those cars.. they'll go for upwards of 30k CAD up here.

interesting. i saw one for sale, looked at it, didn't know enough about it (and didn't know anyone else that knew), 15 years ago. there was nothing wrong with it, as far as i could tell, and it was selling for about $4500 USD.
