Euro front bumper light switch location - need Aussie help!
hey guys, I'm just wondering how the lights on the front of the European bumper are wired up... I'm mainly looking at you Aussies out there, but any help would be appreciated.
The lights I'm talking about are the "driving" lights built into the bumper. If they're wired up the same way as our fog lights, how would I go about wiring up *both* the driving lights and the fog lights on seperate controls? and where would I put the switch? where is the stock switch for the bumper lights?

are you replacing the single fog light with the euro spec fog/driving combo?

In the early euro NA bumpers, the foglights are down below as in the US spec, and there are driving lights near the license plate (really small bumper strips).

yeah, looking at circuit diagrams for the 88 models euro spec, they show fog lights and "additional high beams".
can email them to you.

Yeah, "additional high beams" aka driving lights (since they're supposed to be bright, pointed beams, unlike the low and dispersed light from the fogs).

I am not replacing my fog lights with the lights in the bumper, I'm going to use both sets.
Turbo, I'd appreciate the wiring diagram, as well as any verbal explanation on how to do the job to supplement the diagram. You can use the address kyle_eyers, and that's at hotmail.com. where is the switch inside the car to trigger the euro lights? if it's in the same spot as our fog light switch, where would you suggest to put the new switch for the euro lights?

unfortunately I don't have any info on the switch location. You should have a spare blank switch plate on your conter console in front of the shifter (mine occupied by the cutoff for the amp driving my subs - locally known as the "wife switch").
I would suggest using a relay and fuse, taking power direct from the battery or alternator. Put an illuminated rocker switch in the console connected to the trigger pin of the relay (pin 86), and the other end of the switch connected to the high beam wire of the headlights. That way the driving lights can only be on if your headlights are on high beams, but you can switch the driving lights off even if high beams are on. Using an illuminated rocker switch will give you a visual cue as to whether you have the driving lights on or off. If you need me to draw a circuit diagram for the hookup I can do. btw have mailed you the circuit diagrams from the manual

I have not verified this but it may be that the retractable headlights on the euro spec cars don't have high beam filaments.....thus the "high beam" lights that are in the bumper may be activated when you switch from low bean to high beam. Generally, "driving lights" refers to an additional set of lights, with the characteristics that "wipout" described.
I also have a euro spec bumper that I need to have painted and installed (and wired up). I haven't completely explored this issue yet so I am anxious to hear your conclusions. |

Eldorado, did your car originally have this setup and it's not working properly or is this a retrofit?
Sent you another set of diagrams which seem to show the driving lights tied into the bright/dim stalk.

I've got a north american car, and going to attempt to install a euro bumper.
I'm leaning on the idea of doubling either the height or width of the stock fog lamp switch location to add in a second fog lamp switch right next to (or above) it. the early cars have 4 spots for switches on the center console between the ash tray and the shifter. 1 for mirrors, 1 for rear wiper, and I'm using 1 for my FR Wilk Chip, and 1 for a phony blinking alarm LED. I have an amp cutoff switch installed under the dash...

Something like this? You would need to enlarge the aperture in the dash.

yea, something very much like that, only with two stock switches maybe, if it'd fit.. i haven't taken any measurements yet.

thanks for the shots, Ade.
I've currently got all four switch spots taken up with other switches.. mirror select, rear wiper, alarm blinker LED, and wilk's chip toggle.... however, I can always find another spot for the chip toggle switch, maybe relocate it under the ash tray. in any case, that looks like what I'm going to do. I'd love to have your spare switch - how much do you want for it?

Hi, I'm new here, so I'm not quite sure how this works.
Anyhow, I am interested in locating a European-style front bumper for an early n/a 944, as has been discussed in this thread. Does anyone know where I might be able to find one? Last edited by pucks47; 07-03-2007 at 02:16 PM.. |

Additional High Beam
I have studied the Euro wiring diagram for the additional high beams. They are supposed to come on with headlight high beams so no separate switch is used in the Euros. The Euros don't have a separate indicator either since there already is a big blue one in the instrument cluster.
There is a location in the USA fuse/relay panel for an "additional high beam relay". However, for the USA cars, the relay socket is only partially wired. The relay coil is already grounded on one side, so you just have to add a jumper from terminal G8 to D7 to complete the control side of the circuit. The relay power contact already has power to it on one side and is already wired to fuse #5 on the other side. You just have to add a wire from terminal B17 to the new lights. Don't forget to stick a four pin relay into socket VIII and a 16 Amp fuse into position 5 of the 15 position fuse panel. That is exactly how the Euro cars are wired and that's how I did it. On another note, you could fit two switches side by side, with a 1/2" X 3/4" cutout requirement, comfortably in the stock fog light hole under the oil pressure gauge. With a little panel modification you could fit three like I did: ![]()

There is a switch on the center console.
