new vs rebuilt water pump revisited - who is using what in their car?

this is a revisit to the old "new" vs "rebuilt" water pump debate. i for one have a rebuilt pump in my car. it's been in there since 2002 and it's been working like a champ. i'm probably rolling in on 30,000 trouble free miles on the pump. of course i don't know exact distance because VDO makes crap gauges but that's another story we all know the details to.

so who else is using a rebuilt pump in their car? where'd you get it from and did you experience any problems?

thanks!

obin

Rebuilt here, only 2K though. So far so good. I would prefer a new one but the rebuilt was the only one I could get at the time. Big cost difference.

If this one holds up then I'll be getting another rebuilt pump.

I've never seen a reman pump give out before 60k miles. That combined with the $$ difference between reman and new are good enough reasons for me to use remanufactured pumps!

New...not because I don't trust rebuilt, but my mechanic refused to install rebuilt. Had I done the work myself, I would have gone rebuilt....

Be careful with the used ones. Most people change their's out before disaster. I'm sure there are a lot of good used ones out there only for this reason. But if it goes it can cause major damage. I would put a new rebuilt one at the top of your list.

This is most interesting! I have read many horror stories on a reman vs. new and most say the opposite. The replies here have me thinking about a reman now which is a huge help to my wallet, where ever the hell it is, I can't seem to hold on to it long. This plays well with me and my need to scrape copper off a penny to save up!

OH....Thanks Obin for your service to the USA!!!

I think the rebuilt world is finally getting some quality in their products. In this particular arena of the 944 a company cannot afford to make fualty rebuilt water pumps. It's a small customer base and getting smaller every day. QC has come a long way in the past 10 years too. A bad name for a company for these cars would be the end of their business with this group of cars. Anybody have any names for their pumps? Any names better than others?

Rebuilt one installed in 2002, about 50K miles and 35 DE's ago. No problem.

I do not get the anti rebuild BS
it is just a bearing and seal people whats the big deal!!
as long as the shafts not bent or the case warped
and both should be eazy to check for the rebuilder
and any faults should show up real quick

REMEMBER P CARS STARTED AS HOTROD VWs
