A/C Compressor fuse problems

I have a 1986 944n/a and the ac compressor is blowing the fuse...if you change it it goes about two blocks before it blows again...i tried putting in a bigger fuse but that seems risky...does anyone have any suggestions on what to check...black leather+Oklahoma heat=suck with no a/c

1.Check the a/c compressor clutch for coil resistance and or grounded coil. Use a digital VOM.
Unplug the coil connector and measure the coil resistance across the terminals.
I would say the clutch coil resistance should be around 3-6 ohms.
Less than 2 ohms and greater than 6 ohms is unacceptable.

2. Plug the connector back.
Start the engine then backprobe the positive side of coil with positive probe and negative sode of coil with negative probe.
It should read at least the battery voltage. If it's less, it will not pull in the clutch and will develop heat.

Mine was doing the exact same thing. The clutch solenoid has some shorts in it and was drawing too many amps, blowing the fuse. I replaced the clutch and solenoid, problem fixed.
