What is blue and squeeks?

My car?

Ya..so after the nightmare afternoon i had today... My car decided to die a few times,

First wouldnt start up after work due to low fuel, forgot to fill it up before work today..and .. tried to start it a whole bunch after work and it wouldnt fire up...so i pushed it to the gas station... passed a group of seniors and vacationners... oh the comments i got... after that ribbbing... i filled it up.. go to fire it up and .... nothing...

Push it out of the way and recieve a comment from another patron at the gas station, "so wheres all your porsche horsepower hahaa... "

anyways...

finally after, i guess, the air got out of the fuel lines and the pressure was built up again.. the car fires up...

drive 15Km and just out of nowhere dies again after going over a slight bump ... while driving... at an intersection during rush hour... and again... everyone becomes a comedian in passing cars...

push it over to the side and find out that i had a few wires cross in the fuse box... (i jumped things a few weeks ago to make the ignition switch work as mine has went bad and the part was on order ) and i guess a few things touched accidentally after a bump in the road....

sorted that out..get the car started... and now... The drivers side suspension squeeks turning and going over things...

Long windedly asking here ...

why does she squeek???

My guess would be old bushings. On my 914, it squeaked constantly and drove me crazy. I finally replaced my suspension bushings and the squeaks went away.

There's not too much in the suspension to cause squeaks - but old rubber will squeak. You may be able to squirt some wd40 in there for a "temporary" fix.

+1 for the bushings. Could be a dry strut insert or a bad ball joint. I had a squeeking ball joint on one of my cars that I just had replaced. Hopefully it's something quick and easy! Does it squeek on turns or when the car is "bouncing" up and down?

That had me laughing! Everyone LOVES to poke fun at a broken down Porsche owner. I don't know why. I don't do it to them in their beat down Chevys and Fords. I actually offer to help if it looks like I can really help them.

I had the same fun poked at me when my rear cam tower gasket was leaking on my exhaust blowing off smoke at lights. People loved to pull up next to me and let me know that my car was smoking. The whole WORLD knew is was smoking! It was SOOOO nice to finally have it fixed!

Ya... some one actually said... "ya and they say fords are bad... ahhaa..."

OH.. and to top it off... when the car died the first time in traffic..... one of my Ex girlfriends i havent seen since i got the car was actually behind me.. i noticed as she was swearing at her luck being stuck behind a broken down car...

she didnt notice it was me...so ... i laughed....

Now to top the night off...i went to the partsource to get the gas for my a/c and...

once again..the car didnt start...it wanted to but just wouldnt do it...
I opened the hood and tapped the fuel pressure regulator..and the relays for a few min.... and voila...

called porsche.. they say that its the fuel relay of some sort?

anyone else had the same issue?

it is VERY hot and VERY humid here today.. the first of its kind i think this summer... is this a common issue.. i havent had it happen yet.. so i dont know

anyways.. onto hoping i have the a/c stuff to get it going...

p.s. the squeek is like the sound of a muffler hanger or something..but coming from the front....

I've had my share of problems in my 914. One time I was driving to the coast (at about midnight) when my clutch cable snapped half-way there and in the middle of nowhere. I managed to get the car to my destination but had to travel thru Watsonville and got every stoplight. At each stop, I had to turn the car off and then crank it in 1st gear until it started. Did I mention it was a Friday night and I was doing this infront of every busy bar and restaurant.

Yep...I got a few comments shouted at me.

Tell them that your car is 20 years old, most have no idea that a car that old could look so good.

DME relay - a common issue easy and cheap to fix. Mine died on my way home after picking the car up. Tapping it will "fix" it temporarily but you should replace it.

years ago a friend of mine was asking about Saabs. warning him about the problems with Saab, i told him "you know if you like cars that break down and cost a lot to fix, don't get a Saab: get a Maserati. in the end you'll be on the side of the road just as much, but people are more likely to stop and help the guy with the broken Maserati."
