Fog lights? Is there a bulb?
Just wondering what has to be replaced when a fog light burns out? Is it the whole unit or just the bulb? I know the lens, casing and such are all one piece and there is a bulb involved, but can you just replace the bulb if that is burnt out?

So, I just pull the fog light out, and can simply replace the bulb? No need to buy the whole shebang?

mine may be different than yours is... not sure .. but mine looks like this and the last time I replaced one was in the parkin lot after I bought the bulb. Took under 5 mins, just take off the lens.

That's what mine looks like. Where did you get the bulb? I noticed that the bulb is set in a lil' steel frame and that plugs into that wire coming from the car. Do I replace just the bulb itself (and if so, how do I pull it out of that steel bracket?) or the bulb/wire piece?

just go buy an H3 bulb, 55w is what that circuit handles, any more without replacing wires can mess things up... the wires can't handle it, other components like relays can mess up too. The wire is attached, like I said it's very simple, you'll see that when you buy the bulb at any parts store, big discount place like walmart/kmart and the like...it's very common.

One thing to keep in mind with any glass light bulb....be sure not to touch the glass itself! The oils in your fingers can cause the bulb to fail prematurely...just use a towel or something to hold the bulb when you install it.

I just tried putting in the new bulb - no light!!! Checked the relay and fuse - but they seem to run both lights. My passenger side fog light works, but the drivers side didn't. I pulled the new bulb out, so I could take it back (seeing as it didn't seem like it was the bulb), and get back my whopping $6 (just joking, I saved it cause I know I'll need another one eventually) and I put the original back in - it worked again as soon as the lil' steel bracket hit the metal hole it goes in. What's up with that? It seemed like touching of the metal against metal turned the bulb back on.
......whatever! It works. |

I have checked all the fuses, put in a new relay, AND put new bulbs in (without touching the glass) and the fog lights still don't turn on! Any suggestions?

holy thread from 6 years ago, batman!
pinch down the plug that plugs into the fog light - sometimes they become loose.. after that, i'd suggest replacing the switch.
