Odd engine noise from the front

Something has been concerning me the last couple of days. I just got my 924S to crank and run at idle after a month of tinkering with, well, everything. There is an odd whine coming from the front of the engine. I’ve heard a few high performance engines and they tend to have a little bit of a nasally sound as well, but the 944s I’ve heard are rather throaty by comparison to what I hear now. Should I be concerned? Has anyone else dealt with this before? Do you know what it is? Is it normal for a 924S to sound whiny or is it a “can wait” issue that I can deal with after I get the most pressing things fixed. Thanks in advance.

Nah, this isn't belts squealing and power steering has a different whine. I've never heard what a bad roller sounds like. Maybe. Off-topic but I wanna share and I don't have too many car friends around here interested in foreign stuff: Brakes need to be bled too; they're making high pitched fart sounds at me when I press them and there's no power to them, just peddle. Might be a hose in the vacuum; thats where the farts come from and I'm crossing my fingers its nothing serious. Took her out on the road for a 1/4 mile and back; had to now that she runs. She is QUICK. Nimble Whatever the engine sound is, it doesn't appear to be affecting performance. Tac comes up fast, a little slower on cooldown than I'm used to. Speedometer is faulty; think its the chain. Beyond that whine, the engine sounds smooth. I still want to get the timing belt changed and adjusted properly, along with all the other belts, filters fluid etc.

The timing/balance belts on these do have kind of a throaty whine. Thats probably what your hearing, I know mine sounds like it has a small supercharger...

Thats...actually pretty close. Just a little more nasally than I remember from that movie. Still, to be on the safe side, I'll pull those rollers when I change the timing belt. Its just another $50 and it'll make me feel better Thanks for the replies, and setting my mind more at ease.
