found a PS leak.. need to know....

hey guys, i found a power steering leak here:

The rubber hose that connects the two metal lines.. The leak is right at the joint that is closest to the front of the car..

what hose can I use here? anyone have any dimensions? type of hose?

one more thing, I assume in the parts diagram that they're not showing the entire hose, and that they just show a break for simplicity... am I right here? the hose i'm looking at is a few inches long.

Hose Options

That hose is in the return line, so it's low pressure. The funky metal loop it connects to is the PS oil cooler. You could cut off the fitting at the other end of the little rubber hose with a tubing cutter and replace it with a piece of hose and a couple of clamps, but that's up to you (ask your FLAPS for PS return hose or transmission oil cooler hose). A new return hose assembly that contains that little rubber hose on one end and a banjo fitting on the other end is about $60 from our sponsor.

Size? If you don't have a caliper handy, just get your open-end wrenches out and see what the OD of the metal line is and get some hose with the appropriate ID.

good to know, thanks Edek.
I looked up the price, it's about $120, i believe.. at least it is for my 83.

and the hose on there now has hose clamps on either side of it, so i assume someone 'fixed' it in the past...

It probably failed again because the PO used cheap fuel line. Transmission oil cooler hose is the easiest to find and is designed for ATF that the PS system uses.
