How to take cam out?

hi, i already have the cam tower(and lifters) out of the car. I tried to just jently pull the cam out but it wouldn't come. how do i take it out properly? do i have to mess with the cap on the end? I know its probably easy but i didn't want to mess anything up.
thanks

Yes you have to mess with the cap on the end. Unbolt the cap and the cam should slide out the rear or the tower. You can tap on the front of the cam with a rubber mallet to get it started but once the front is through the hole you should only wiggle and turn the cam the rest of the way.

After you take apart the cam gear housing you should be able to slide the cam out easily. Make sure to do a complete cam tower reseal with new seals while you are reassembling.

No need to take the cam gear off - the cam should slide out the front, rotate it gently as you go.

IIRC you need to remove the cam gear to get to the 3 bolts holding the rear cam housing to the tower.

No way to take the front cover off with the cam gear on AFAIK, plus you will want to change the front cam seal too.
