Can't Remove Fuel Rail / Injectors

Hi to all.

My first post here.... Trying to remove the fuel rail and injectors with no luck...

(This is a 1986 944 N/A)

I have removed all of the fuel hoses, fuel rail cover, injector connectors, the rail bolts. Now the fuel rail and injectors should just 'pull straight up and out' right?

Wrong! The injectors are stuck tight in the manifold and I have tried for over an hour to convince them to come out! But they're not listening to me!

Seriously, I have pulled and pulled upwards on the rail to no avail !

This IS supposed to be easy, right?

Any ideas or suggestions are greatly appreciated!

Thanks.

Take the clips holding the injectors to the rail.... pull the rail off...

It will give you a better look at the injectors themselves.

You took out the 4 bolts holding the rail.

I used the wooden end of a hammer (as a leverage bar) to get one end of the rail to start coming out. It's hard to pull all for injectors out at the same time but if you start on one end the others will start coming out.

As stated above, you can also remove the clips from the rail and pull off the rail - leaving the injectors still in the manifold. Then pull on each injector seperately.

Thanks guys.

I will try your suggestions and see what happens.

Is there a specific injector removal tool available?

Thanks again for your suggestions!

I tok all mine out and they were stuck so bad that one of them pulled loose of its clip and stayed with the engine when the other three pulled out. I don't know if it's related but when I put it all back together one injector leaked at the seam. Admittedly I was unable to budge them until I started using a prybar! Good luck!

And you'll have to use some vaseline or I heard recomended ATF on them when you are pushing them back into place. (with new seals of course)

had this problem on my friend's car. some idiot had used 928 injector O-rings (or some others that were ridiculously large) and the injectors were stuck in there TIGHT. getting the thing off ruined two of the injectors.

The injectors then to glue themselves to the manifold, mostly from oxidation on the manifold due to age.

If you spray and soak the injectors with a penetrating spray, like PB or Freeall, they usually slide right out after 10 minutes or so. Not going to hurt at all, and if anything prevent damage to components from puling too hard.

Soak and wipe the sealing bores for the injectors in the manifold prior to reinstalling them to avoid a leak. Little bit of grease on the injector seal goes a long way in getting them back in.

it's easy to damage the fuel rail while doing this, so be careful.

Thanks guys.

These are great suggestions. The injectors are still stuck like they are glued in.

I did remove the rail from the injectors...but as I said...they are still well stuck in the manifold.

I am going to try soaking them with a penetrating spray and see what happens tonight. I'll keep you posted!

Thanks!

might be time to send them to witchhunter.com for a good cleaning and flow matching.

OK, got the rail off of the injectors and then proceeded to remove the injectors one by one from the manifold.

I previously soaked the injectors with PD at the manifold seal, so removal was much easier!

The new injectors are already installed in the freshly cleaned up manifold. Now on to the next project!

Thanks for the help guys!
