Would like some advice on Motor Mounts

I've replaced virtually everything that's rubber on this car and now I've concluded that I probably need new motor mounts. The car has a mild vibration at idle. I have all new timing belts - done by a very reputable shop so I believe that the vibration may be due to the motor mounts. It seems like it is getting worse and the Porsche lettering on the cam tower is blurry when idling do to the vibration.

The car is an '88 n/a. It only has 27k miles but I guest the rubber mounts can still deteriorate with age.

My Questions:

I've read the detailed directions on Clark's Garage but I wanted to get some advice from the experts before I attempt this project.

About how long should this take to do....I am not a mechanical novice but I haven't done motor mounts?

Do I need any special tools?

Clark's refers to needing special size bolts - due to OEM mounts changing and mount holes may not be deep enough. When you buy motor mounts, do they come with new bolts? (item #15 on the Clark's list).

All advice is welcome....thanks in advance........................Vern

Before spending time and money based on an assumption, get the balance shafts checked. I will surmise they are either:
1) not timed to the #1 TDC,
2) not timed relative to each other, or
3) one shaft has the sprocket on upside down.....

When installing sprockets, BOTH shafts have the sprockets installed with the keys facing UP. It would NOT be the first time that a "reputable" shop got it wrong.. it happens...

As to the motor mounts, your description doesn't sound like it... there is more vibration yes from bad mounts but heck, we run SOLID mounts and don't have vibration like you describe... and the old cup cars commonly had holes drilled in the mounts to intentionally fail them to lower the centre of gravity while keeping the stock mount there as per the rules...

Before you replace the motor mounts read this post: what is the story with motor mounts?.
I have a 1988 924S 57K miles with an idle vibration and my mounts are good. What I am now working on is replacing the rubber disk that broke apart. If your 27K 944 has the original rubber disk, check your transmission inspection hole for bits of rubber disk before you crawl back home with a blown disk.
