need tech help with 79 924

does anyone know how to perform a basic tuneup on a 79 924? I took it to a porsche mechanic and they told me the valves need to be adjusted and the bosch injection system needs to be adjusted, how can I do this myself? If anyone knows please let me know.......

p.s. I hope this board isnt full of 944 and 968 snobs, lol.

From what I remember from my '77 924, the valve adjustment is pretty easy if you have a factory service manual or even a Haynes manual. Just make sure you put a new valve cover gasket on it. The fuel injection is easy to adjust, but not easy to know when you have it adjusted properly without an EGA machine.

ps: There aren't too many 968's on here, so I guess it's mostly just 944 snobs.

The 924 is pretty basic car. You WILL need the manual, the Haynes one works just fine.
Usual basic service is: oil + filter change, fuel filter change, spark plugs, with plugs out check the compressions (as a baseline), valve adjust, air filter change, ignition dist cap and rotor, points (if fitted) and adjustments of timing and co/idle speed. If the timing belt hasn't been done.... do it.

Other jobs: Trans fluid change, clutch cable adjust, brake fluid change, front wheel beaing adjustment. parking brake adjust, check all the cv bolts, lube all hinges, seal and locks, check the battery and top up then go round and look at everything.

This depends on what was done before. And if you only have one key...get some spares now!

Please put your location as Porsche specs vary worldwide.
