Found a shop near where I work where I saw some nice 911s, a very good looking 928, and some 944s.
~$900 I was told for the timing belt and water pump, and things in between (depending on what is needed). This includes a 30k guarantee against breakage, and if it does, they will cover it/make it right. That seems reasonable, as the Waterpump shop time is about 8hrs last I checked alldata. Seems good. Now, my car has 91k on it, and I THINK the t-belt was done at 86k in 2005. If I drive it softly, I should be okay the 90 miles to the shop... right? The cover is on so I cannot see the condition of the belt, but the other belts seem good, and it was garage kept for most of its life... =) Excited and nervous to get her out there. |

Does that include the 1500 mile retension?

That sounds like a pretty good price, especially including the water pump. I would assume it's a rebuilt pump for that price. Not necessarily a bad thing, but something to consider. If you could get a new pump put in there for another $100 or so, I'd go with that.
And a t-belt should be good for at least 3 years/30k miles, so if you're sure it was done in '05, you should be fine.

I paid $1500 to have mine done. This also included flushing the brakes and the power steering fluids and they also replaced one fuel hose at the gas tank. $900 sounds about right.
Mine also included a retension at 1500 miles but I doubt a retension at 15k will be free. |

Without paperwork in hand, I cannot be sure. Unless it was done at Porsche and can be seen in a database, but nothing in carfax about service (my Audi shows up as dealer serviced).
Rebuilt water pump should be as good as new, they just use the metal shell and should put all new internals and gaskets. =) Glad $900 is reasonable. |

Dropping it off tomorrow. Going to have them do the ac and alternator belts while in there, and recommend anything else... =)

plugs, wires, cap, and rotor? If you wanted to save a few bucksa, the alternator, AC, and power steering belts are a very easy fix. $22 for those belts.

That's true. I'll do it myself. Just never trust myself to get the tension right... =)
Thanks for the vote of confidence... I'm sure they may 'find something' that requires real attention, not something easy like AC or alt or ps belt... =) |

the tensioning is easy, you should have a little play in the belt. Press down on the belt with your thumb, it should "bend" about 1/3 of an inch or so. There are posts on here I know.

$900 seems very good. I was quoted 2200 for the belts and the pump. Another shop told me 500 for just the belts.

$900 sounds like a good price. The Porsche dealer did mine in the spring for $1300. I also got a new cap and rotor. The rotor for my '87 was real expensive. They finally have very cost effective rotors on here or another parts site that we use a lot. Check for any oil leaks in the front end. I had my front seals replaced while they had it all apart. I have sence had mine all apart myself. It is not hard to do at all and if you are capiable you will save hundreds of dallars!
