Tick And Click Fix
I have an S2 i just got... 89.
This morning.. the thing started Ta-tocking from the rear end. The sound goes up with Speed.. yet... only sounds when the transmission is engaged in a gear. If i am cruising and pop out of gear and leave it in neutral..there is no sound. Can some one help me diagnose this .... The sound is almost like two ticks at Very low rpm/speeds... ta-tock ta tock... but when going faster it almost becomes one tock sound... Torque Tube? Transmission? Thank you... Marcone |
cv-joints?
|
Only makes noise when in gear.. not constant while rolling...
|
yeah, that could be the CV joints. THat's exactly what my 944 used to do, before I re-greased the CVs. It's an easy/cheap fix.
|
makes sense that the CVs will click only when there is pressure on them to drive and not when it's just rolling...
|
Makes sense.. only really sounds when there is more pressure than not.
How do i fix this? Marcone |
Clark's garage has a write up, but it really is fairly straightforward. You have a couple options:
New CV joints New/rebuilt entire driveaxles Repack old CVs with new grease. I would recommend the first option, but I suppose if you have plenty of time, option 3 is doable, especially if you inspect the CV boot and it appears to be cracked. Sand/dirt/grime can get in, messing with the grease. Just be advised it is a quick fix, and the problem *might* come back later... The job really is as easy as simply removing the driveaxle arms, repacking them/replacing them, and reattaching them. |
So.. i went to find out how much new ones are for my s2 and it says 107.00 qty 4
does that mean it has everything i need for both sides? never had to do CV's Or does it mean i have to buy four? |
