9Magazine...RIPOFF!

On Sept. 20, '05 I ordered a CDrom of back issues, and a subscription to 9Magazine. I paid by PayPAl, and have YET to receive anything. I'd like to hear from others who have dealt with or know the people involved, as I would like either my money back or the magazine and CD.
Anyone?
Edit-
I tried to go to thier website, and got a 404 not found message. GRRRRRRRRRRRRR...

Good luck, I paid for a subscription a year or so ago. Screamed bloody murder, received one issue and haven't see another one since. Sigh.

Good luck!

I ordered a 1yr subscription over 2 years ago. only within the last 2 weeks did i eventually recieve the final issue of my subscription. A year late.........

Seems like the people who run it have their head up their ass. In addition to all the problems actually sending out magazines (which has been happening right from Day #1), It's full of publishing and editing errors as well. Duplicated sections of articles, missing sections, and tons of spelling errors.

The magazine isn't really even that good. They claim it's mostly dedicated to technical help, but the problem is, it's not a large magazine, and they cover all the porsche cars. Therefore, they have seperate Q&A, and "tech articles" for all the models. There's only 1 "tech article" relavent to each model line, and it's usually something that's simple to do anyway (like changing your brake pads and rotors). The Q&A is usually only 3 or 4 questions, and mostly they're things that you find answers to on various online BBS's anyway.

So basically, if you own only one porsche model, all you really get is answers to 3 or 4 usless questions, and 1 tech article, covering something you probably already know how (or can figure out how) to do anyway.

The problem with Paypal is by the time you realize your not getting the magazine their time limit passes and you're sheet out of luck to make the claim. Been there done that.

Paypal won't get involved if it is beyond 45 days since the payment was made.
I sent an email to 9Magazine through the board and haven't heard back.
Anyone know where he lives?

Same here. There was someone from the mag on this board, and I was all excited to read it. Sounded like he wanted to do a lot of 944 content. Too bad

Yeah, I had picked up a couple of issues from the newsstand. They had some half way decent content on the '44, so I figured I'd try to help support a board member and fellow enthusiast by subscribing.

Let me see what the hell is going on. I did go to a circulation workwork a few weeks back. Turns out the Albuquerque and Louisville, KY Post Offices are the two worst issues.

I added my own name to our mailing list to monitor how fast issues are being mailed and delivered to subscribers. IT took 8 days for my OWN copy to get to me mailed via the Albuquerque Post Office.

Guys, not trying to rip anyone off! My hands are tied when it comes to the United States Postal Service. However, what other publication has 911, 914(2), 944, 928, and a Boxster just for DIY stories for their readers?

EMAIL me or FAX ME! If I DON"T KNOW THERE is a PROBLEM I CAN'T FIX IT.

Z, also I will send you our 2002-2003 CD for FREE for all the problems.
Here is a post he made to me when I was complaining on this board.

I noticed in his handle it says: "Just Moved To Valencia, CA". Maybe that has something to do with the problems expressed here.

That response seems typical for them. Always plenty of (seemingly valid) excuses.

Do a search on www.968.net One of the posters there "Flash" has something to do with the magazine. Just lots of excuses. (oh, and by the way, he's a real hot-head too. Always VERY argumentitive, and always has to get the last word in.)

Personally, i don't think they're intentionally trying to rip anybody off, I think it's just a few regular guys that thought they could do an enthusiast magazine, and it turned out to be a MUCH bigger project than they all had planned, and they just can't pull it off succesfully.

Here is a copy of the latest email I sent them...

On Sept. 20, '05 I ordered a CDrom of back issues, and a subscription to 9Magazine. I paid by PayPAl, and have YET to receive anything. Please refund my $34.94 plus interest immediately (within seven calendar days) and through PAYPAL, or I will be forced to pursue legal options, including reporting your publication to applicable state and federal agencies (Postal Fraud Unit, Federal Trade Commission, etc.). As well as the possibility of a class action lawsuit (yes, the other people you have stiffed are angry, too).
Sincerely,
Mark Seligman

We'll see if this one get's a response...

I just got a response! We'll see if they come through (I'll post either way). If they do you guys should pass the word and raise hell, too. You might be able to get a refund!

Mark,

Sorry that you haven't received your CD rom as of yet. This year has been
hell on the magazine with ex-wifves and moving the office.

I will refund your $34.94 on Tuesday morning, ship the CD-ROM at no charge
that day as well and keep your subscription active for the 2006 year at no
cost.

We should have published 6 issues for 2005 1 has been mailed, the 2nd is
waiting to be mailed and the third is at the printers.

For 2006 we are dropping the Glossly covers as this has doubled our print
bill with no additional print advertising to cover it. Cool idea for a
small publication, but bad idea for a time we are dealing with rebuilding.

Thanks for your email, if we have to refund every single subscription we
will, but we will not let this publication die. The new management takes
over on December 22nd.

Thanks, if you have any comments or suggestions for us please send them to
us.

Just an FYI, I was just out in CA and met up with "Flash" (aka Bob Larson) who told me that he was "distancing himself from 9 Magazine", so I'd suggest you send your correspondences to Brian Minson. I met Brian a few years back and thought he was a decent enough guy, I think he got in over his head and trying to dig himself out of the hole now, with some predictable results. Hopefully he can pull it together, but people have been saying this for over two years now, so I am guessing he's going to have a tough time attracting advertisers in this marketplace.

Regards,

I bought 2 issues. The first one was so bad that I didn't even keep it, and if you know me, I am a pack-rat when it comes to anything Porsche. I then emailed Brian a few times with my CV and and volunteered to submit a few articles and proof read...............no response. I purchased the next issue (3-4 months later) and it was even worse than the first.

I'd like to give Kudos to someone that is a Pelican/Rennlist member for giving it a good shot, but this thing was poorly done and doomed from the start.

The above statements are just my opinion.

I didn't know that "Flash" was involved at all. But if that is the case, that explains a few things.
